Can anyone tell me what temp the fans kick in at and what should the normal running temp is for this time of year. I think I need a water temp sensor but would like to know how hot other poeples car are getting.

Also I have heard a few stories about an air lock in the coolant system can sometimes happen, how can you stop this happening.

Any help would be much appreciated

I have a Tamora and my fans come on around 93 degrees and go off when the temp goes under 90 degrees usualy in traffic, the oil temp is around 75 when this happens. when on the motorway at 70/80mph the temp is 71/72 and the oil temp 55/60. i expect this to be normal as i have had no problems with overheating(so far?). Sometimes I feel im pre-occupied with the readouts and forget to enjoy the car, anyone else suffer from this???

i had an air lock which caused hot running.

if you look between the bonnet and nose cone, you'll see water hoses two of which(one each side) have a aluminium section with a bleed screw in them.

i was told to open these on a cold engine which did work but i also turned the car over for a few minutes at intervals and opened the valves after each short run, this releasing even more air.

mines fine now, with fans on at about 91/92 and not going much higher.
however i do have a slight water leak so i guess the potential for getting air in the system is there.

I will try to bleed the system as said and hopefully get out for a run to find out if it makes any difference.

Cheers

I've got a tam too. c3for's temps are about the same as mine, though I have noticed them reach just a little over 100C.

I had a damaged radiator last year whilst driving around Europe which needed constant attention to ensure the levels didn’t go down. It was quite embarrassing going pop just outside Monaco! It reach about 110C on that occasion, with an ambient of well over 30C. I’ve now got a new rad and a dose of rad-weld in it. The levels seem rock solid and I’ve had no probs since (humm, am I tempting fate here). If you've had level problems, it might be something to consider.

I have also bled the rad directly. There a plastic screw with a rubber washer on the end of the rad matrix (top, near-side if memory serves. My washer was knackered, which I'm sure didn’t help.

milu, tried looking for these bleed screws but cant find them can you give me more info on there location.

also I have got a new air temp sensor today as when I bought the car the sensor was faulty so was removed. I know where to plug it in but wear does the sensor go, does it just hang loose?

I have found that quite often the water temp sensor is what causes the overheating - i have had this on two occasions and had two new sensors put in both times.

Does anyone know who to fit these sensors? is it straight forward? i was thinking about buying some spares for a european trip!!

It might not apply in your case, but when I noticed odd oil temps last year on my T350, I spotted that when checking the air, water and oil temps before starting (and cold) the oil temp was up to 10deg different compared to the other two sensors and that helped confirm a bad sensor. After replacement, the temps from all three sensors are within a few degs of each other. I don't think a sensor always fails in this way, but might help to do this check.

I actually asked Peter Morgan at DM this today for the Sagaris and the reply was 96 and 98 degrees for the 2 fans.
I dont know if that is the same for the Tam or 350.

Interesting - I've noticed my current Tuscan kicks in around that whereas
my original was at 90/92.

That's what my 2 Tam does, too.

What a difference a cup of water makes................

after reading a thread on PH about filling your coolant up so that you can just touch it with your fingers my water temp is now 7-10 deg lower.
I cant beleive that such a small amount of water would make so much difference, but it has!

Cheers

That's what it did to mine.

(Although I used coolant! )

Does anyone know how to fit a new water temp sensor? Is it easy/hard?
