Last evening I drove out of work in my MR2. It was raining and there was some surface water on the roads. As I was driving round a roundabout to get onto a bypass, I suddenly ended up in the center of the roundabout on the grass. All I can remember is the MR2 suddenly spinning onto the grass in the center of the roundabout. I was only doing 40mph and nobody was injured or involved.

I just sat there in the car for a moment. Nothing appeared to be wrong with the car, and there is no damage anywhere apart from the tyre marks on the grass. So I drove off the roundabout and home, very bemused and embarrassed.

I must have hit some surface water on the roundabout which must have caused the back end to flip out, and once the back end goes in those MR2s there is no way back. My confidence in the MR2 in the wet has gone totally. Time to get rid of it I think.

Hope I have not lost my nerve with the Tamora!!!!!!!!

friend of mine lost his MR2 on the M25 and ended up the wrong way in the centre of the motorway in the crash barrier. It was raining and he wasn't tearing around, it does happen. Wrote the car off though so you did get away with only your pride dented......

Bummer, but at least it doesn't sound expensive.

A few years ago a mate of mine lost his MR2 on a roundabout, causing quite a bit of damage to wheels and exhaust. This sort of completed a set - between three of us then we could name nine immediate friends who either owned or had owned an MR2, and now all of them had lost it.

I stick to front-engined, myself

If it's wet outside my general rule of thumb is to pretend the accelerator does not work unless you are pointing in a straight line; and then it only works if pushed slowly.

Don't be too hasty.

I've had a couple of MR2s (MK2). The early ones, G and H reg, are the worst for spinning, but they are all VERY sensitive to tyre wear on the rear. If the rears are even nearing the wear limit, you've got to drive like a tree hugging vegetarian in the wet.

Have a look and see. If you're tires are old, you can hold your head up high

Never driven an MR2 but have an Alpine GTA Turbo, rear engine, rear wheel drive. Never take it out in the wet, three monster spins, no more. Brilliant in the dry though.

Anyone considered oil or diesel on the road? I've a couple of roundabouts near me that get a lot of lorry traffic and I've seen a few people end up backwards. I've even had my 4wd Evo step out a couple of times whilst going relatively slowly.

That stuff can get like ice.
