Warranty repairs and dealer recommendation ???
Discussion
Hi Guys
Hoping a few of you can help out here
First, as most of you probably realise, there is no TVR dealership in Wales anymore. My two closest dealers are therefore David Hendry and County TVR - does anyone have any good or bad things to say about these two?
Next, my TVR 2 year warranty expires on I believe the 4th June 2006. There are a couple of items I would like rectified prior to this, one being the water ingress into the passenger footwell and the other being damage caused to the paintwork inside the door openings by the poorly adjusted doors.
I rang the supplying dealer today (originally Silverstone TVR and subsequently London TVR) concerning both items. They say the water ingress would be covered under warranty but that the damage to the door openings wouldn't as the paintwork warranty was only 1 year. They agreed that the doors would be adjusted but that was it. This sounds crazy, I attempted to argue that it was not the paint that was at fault but the badly adjusted door but to no avail. Any thoughts anyone? Perhaps some of you have encountered similar problems?
Cheers
Mark

I'm not a million miles away from you, I have sampled both you mention, both are OK. However, I now use, and will continue to use Silverstone Performance - bit of a trek, but the best by far regarding price/quality of service, and from my experience, they go way beyond the original service remit.
Hi Chris
Thanks for the recommendation. What pi$$es me off is that I have to drive 150 miles to get a service or someone to look at some warranty work. The last thing I need is to add wasted miles to the car.
A couple of months ago I noticed that a Hyundai dealer in Cardiff had taken up a TVR franchise - great I thought, somewhere to go to check out the cars and obtain parts and warranty work approval (if nothing else!). Popped back a month ago and they had closed the TVR side down - lack of support from TVR was quoted as the reason.
I'm sure a dealer set up in Cardiff or the locality would rake in the customers.

I'd also consider Peninsula TVR who come highly recommended.
My car is currently languishing at David Hendry TVR, where I bought it from. Always had good service from them.
Your issue is finding a dealer who will take the work on (I know the warranty is a TVR one etc and there are pan european laws etc. etc. but this is TVR). The rate paid to dealers for warranty work is very very very low, hence if they can keep the mechanics busy at £60 per hour they don't want to do your work at £15 per hour (or whatever). Obviously as you build a relationship with a dealer and spend some money with them this reluctance may pass. Whatever you do don't get shirty with the dealer though - they'll just clam up and not help.
It sounds like you've not had the car long - did you buy it knowing about these issues?

Just recently bought the car, wasn't aware of the water ingress and to be honest I probably wouldn't normally intentionally leave it outside in the rain...my excitement got the better of me and I took it to work last week!
I did notice the marks on the door openings and to be honest it wasn't enough to put me off. I'm just surprised by the dealers comment that the door adjustment would be covered but the paint work the door damaged wouldn't....mention was made of the 1 year paintwork warranty but surely that's not the issue? I may call TVR in the morning.
Totally agree with you about winding up the dealer, I have no intention of doing that.
Cheers Mark

Hi Mark,
I'm sorry to say but the marks on the doors where they rub the inside of the bodywork is a case of: TADTS
I've had two Tivs and the both did it.
I could hear the Tam do it (and it really showed) so I got it fixed, but the T350 only rubs under extreme circumstances (lol) and it is only slight so I'm not bothered.
At least, try to get the water ingress sorted, and, as we know, there's not much "Down South".

I used David Hendry on two occasions and found them to be very good. I will continue to use them, as I was impressed by the enthusiasm of the mechanics and the quality of their work.
I got my 18" spider alloys through them and they gave me a very good deal on the Toyo tyres aswell. I also recently had the TVR serviced by them and I am very happy with the results.
When I purchased the TVR from a car dealer in Salisbury, there was a problem with the power steering mechanism. The dealer sent the car to a TVR dealer called Westover Sports Cars in Poole, who I might say where totally useless. It took me 8 weeks to get the car back from them with the problem rectified. So I don't recommend Wasteover (sorry Westover) Sports Cars in Poole, but I do recommend David Hendry in Malmesbury.

Hi m33ufo. Bought my sagaris and a 4x4 from d.hendry last year. They have fixed everything that needed fixing on the sag ( albeit minor things )very promptly and efficiently with no questions asked. They also service the cars and you get to talk to the mechanics which, I think, can only be a good thing. Can't say more than that really, but I would use him again in the future so that must be a thumbs up!
Thanks for your replies. I spoke to Andrew Hendry at David Hendry cars earlier, he appears a really nice guy.
The bad news seems to be that, in contradiction to what London TVR said, the car is only covered during the first year for the defects I mentioned (door alignment and water ingress), I shall have to call them again in the morning.
Other than that, I'll give them a try in the next few months when my car needs a service.
Cheers

Thats what I was thinking, but thought I'd say nothing in case you got it done anyway
Andrew's a good guy.
I agree. You can also email Andrew:
andrewhendry@dhcars.co.uk
Note: David Hendry also seem to be well stocked with spare parts. If they have to order parts from the factory, they get the parts quickly which means you are not waiting for days (or maybe weeks like what I had with Wasteover in Poole).

Neither of mine do/did it
