Had a similar problem with my Chimaera, spluttering under acceleration, turned out to be the Inertia switch that cuts the fuel off in case of an accident,Ian at middlewich sorted it out no problem, touch wood running like a dream now.

this I promise thee,

one day soon you will forget all about this hiccup. Get the car sorted and it'll thrill and reward like no car you ever get again.

I know how gutting it can be, I picked up my griff on the Saturday and the crankshaft snapped on the Monday, eight weeks it was off the road. I was going to get it done and sell it, well I did sell it, 4 1/2 years later Then I went out and bought a T350 :laugh Stick with it you'll be smiling again.

I had my T350 in the dealer the other day to fix a minor niggle. He said you have to love TVRs, including their faults. I love my TVR including its (very minor) faults. Just wish Mrs. NailedOn had the same attitude to me!

how true you are, I find it hard to justify the expense to my wife, especially as she used to work for TVR. It's really hard to get her to smile when I say it's only a small service dear....

I've had water in the alarm and door ecu in the passenger footwell a few times, it found a way in above them from the heater area under the bonnet, when parked in the rain uphill.

Had to tip it out (!) and dry out with another car's heater, +WD40, then worked fine. Difficult to seal source, so re-mounted ecu's high up & upside down in open plastic bag, just in case.

Spoke to previous owner and dealer who replaced last ECU and they said they tried 4 before one worked. Cant help thinking this was not the issue and the problems now are the original problem not the ECU.

I recall when the issue's were occurring it was very wet has anyone else had running problems after a down pour?

Surely if an ECU is screwed it wouldn't work intermittently? Any one else experienced these issues..?

Whoever tried 4 ECUs was definitely out of their depth, don't go near em. Sounds like a simple earth fault to me

Yes, two days last week.
Engine starts ok and everything seems normal. After a short time it coughs and splutters and stalls unless I keep the revs above approx 1500. Also sounds really rough as though not running on all cylinders.
I suspected water getting at the ecu as the top the dash is like a swimming pool if it rains heavy but I've not checked. As its only 10months old it's going back to the dealers next week for them to sort.

Could also be water around the plugs/plug leads. The engine design and installed tilt angle means the rocker cover er, cover for the plugs and leads needs to be sealed as water would collect in the plug recesses.

Now what happened to that snazzy looking rocker cover shown on the Speed Six engine forum recently ... looked much better, plus had oil spray bars built in.

I'll take a look later.
May be a silly question but exactly where is the ecu mounted ?
I was told above the passenger footwell but all I found was the alarm box held in place with cable ties. I didn't even find the intertia switch which doesn't seem to be in the place the manual says. Or do I need to pull away more carpet (which seems very well stuck down).

My ECU is way at the front of the drivers' footwell bolted to the bulkhead.

your symptoms are exactly the same. I'd being interested in your dealers findings

Castle TVR are looking at this problem now so hopefully their experience will far out way that of Christopher Neil who as mentioned above are no longer TVR dealers.

My car is booked in for Wednesday, as soon as I hear anything from them I'll post on here.
Fingers crossed that it actually makes it back to the dealer, being on the back of a RAC truck twice in 10months would not be good.
If Castle make any progress can you post here as it may help me too.

scottwade,
Have you heard anything about your problem yet ?
Seems they've had it a reasonable time now but I guess it depends on whether they can recreate the problem or not.
Mine went in on Wednesday morning so too early to expect anything yet...but I'm missing it already !

Hi Scott,
I only had trouble with mine after it had been raining and it always fixed itself after a while (possibly 10-20minutes). As yours still seems to be doing it now perhaps we have different problems ?
Anyway, I collected mine today. Their initial thought was water getting at the plugs as suggested by targarama and although there wasn't any evidence of this they've resealed the cover. They said the "throttle pots" (all dutch to me) needed resetting. The only sign of water is a leak on the left hand side which leaves a large pool on the top of the dash but this doesn't get anywhere near the ecu.
Other than the problem of stalling and running very rough after rain I'd not noticed any other problems but it does seem to be more responsive since I got it back.
I've done about 100 miles today with no problems but having said that I also did 90 on wednesday when I took it to the dealer and it was ok then as well.
They seemed sure I'd have no further trouble...time will tell.
So not much help at all I'm afraid.
I'd still be interested to hear what they find on yours just incase mine fails again.

Recently came across a similar problem. Problem was traced to a fault on the relay/fuse board due to water ingress (water dripping onto back of board). Not exactly the easiest thing to check though!

Any tell tale signs that I could look for just in case ? I'm guessing that getting at the back of the fuse/relay board isn't trivial and not something I'd want to try myself ?
I'll check for more water leaks at the weekend when it gets washed.
