Just recently I have had trouble selecting gears when the car is cold once I get a bit of heat into her shes fine, is this a common problem or does it need some attention?
Its not unusual in my experience. If its just a recent thing, and has been fine previously, its worth getting it checked over.

clutch finger failure started in the same way.
What happens when this occurs.....??
And how much does it cost ??
It's a common cause of clutch failure. The fingers which operate the pressure plate start to snap off meaning the clutch doesn't release. It can happen anywhere from around 20k miles upwards, depending on clutch use/treatment I guess.
Its not uncommon my t350 gearbox has been tight when cold from new. Gearbox oil takes longer to reach optimum temp than the engine oil. To get the gearbox oil up to temp quicker stop after 30 minutes and get some petrol when you start her up again the gearbox is like silk. My tyres are the same bit twitchy until warm.

The handbook for an old Italian car I used to own clearly stated that second gear should not be attempted untill the engine was up to normal temperature.

If it's the release levers you'll find out in a month or so when you won't be able to get 1st gear even if selected before starting the engine.
Mine went at 10k miles. The actual pressure plates had almost no wear at all - reassuring as it most likely means the previous owner didn't abuse the car before I bought it.
