Oh woe.....

£535 bill coming up for me. Never go shopping in Waitrose!

Just misjudged my distance from the kerbstones in the car park and thumped the chin spoiler. Split all along the length.....

Bugger, bugger, bugger....

I have resigned myself to reverse parking with the 'Gris - for the same reason.
Mind you, luckily only a couple of minor scrapes spurred me into that reaction.
Hope the repair is fast and effective.

Reverse parking is not quite as good an option in the Tam, as it has the low splitter at the rear which looks mighty like it would attract kerbstones.

Think I just need to be flat-cap Dorset driver cautious for a while, until I really get used to the car.

Or resort to a parking aid!! Heaven forbid...

Repair will be done at Racing Green, so I have every expectation that it will be a pukka job. Will do a temp fix with windsreen sealant (suggested by Martin at Racing Green) and get repair at 6K service. That won't be long, as I've done 3.5K already in the last 8 weeks.

I had a disagreement with the kerb at the Nurburgring. The irony is I was being uber careful to avoid kerbing the wheels - doh!

The front splitter is properly scratched underneath but you wouldn't know it if you walked past. I wonder if it's possible just to stick a whole new splitter on? If so I'll wager it's more than £500.

Yeah, I've been so careful about looking after the alloys too.

My damage is very noticable. The white of the fibre glass is showing through the reflex charcoal paint all along the length of the chin.

I would guess replacement would be much more expensive.

I found out the hard way too!
Now realise that you can't line your door with the car next to you as it'll probably have driven its wheels right up to the kerb. Its nose will overhang the pavement blocking most of it too!

Ullo, ChrisMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMm.

Donuts in Waitrose the wife said...... Well, she should have made herself clearer, dammit.

I've covered the cosmetic damage with Loctite windscreen sealant all along the length of the chin. Smoothed it in and I can't see the damage at all now. Car's Reflex Charcoal so it just blends right in.

I'll not bother getting it repaired until the nose is so peppered with stone chips that it needs a respray.

The front lip can be a nightmare at times! I remember hitting a brick in the middle of the road (thought it was paper at the time, so didn't try to avoid it!!) The sound as it hot the lip, and bounced around underneath the car was horrendous! Sure enough, it split the fibre glass on the front edge of the lip - as the spoiler was black at the time, I simply scraped out any loose fibre glass, filled it with car body filler and sanded it smooth - finally painting the whole lip using black Hammerite spray paint. Was fine 'till I had the whole front re-sprayed.

I am in this club as well. I hit a speed ramp (no indication it was there, in the twilight, and I was doing 27-30 mph). Cracked rather than split the nose but underneath has been worn down over the last two years. However I now have really bad stonechips and the flies cannot hide them so I am going to get a front end respray, hopefully while I am on holiday.

And, despite my previous posts on this, I am looking closely at Paintshield (c£500).

Let us know how you get on Steve, both with the cost of the re-spray and what you think of the paintshield.

I'm still not sure about it; and picked up a damned big stone chip, low down just in front of the nearside wheel. Big rock hit me, which I believe would have gone through paintshield anyway.

Quote about £1200. Bodyshop will need to get 1 litre of paint (most of the cost) but with damage to repair you may find it could be up to £1400. fyi, Paintshield cannot be applied until 7 days after painting (or 14 days for chromoflair).

Definitely a job to be booked in when you are on holiday.

I reversed my T350 into a high kerb and knocked a lump out of the left-hand side of the rear diffuser. Probably took 3-4 cm off, 2-3 mm deep. ChipsAway fixed if perfectly for £100.

Good point, for a localised area that is a good solution. My stonechips are too widespread, so I am thinking respray, paintshield, and keeping the spare paint for any minor hits in other areas that could be done by chipsaway or similar.

My hols are not until August but I'll keep you all posted on costs and results as/when I do this.
