I’m about to place an order for a new Sagaris (well my insurance company is on my behalf). I have not pressed the dealer much on the topic but last week he was extending the possible delivery times for new cars from “12 weeks” to “well I don’t know might be 14 or more due to supply problems”. I’m now caught between a rock and a hard place…… Do I go for a new car and keep paying my finance for the next 14 weeks or more in the hope that I get a new car that is worth more than the one sitting in the scrap yard somewhere or do I take a cash offer and walk. My instinct says go for the new car, but then ………

Moral support needed here, TVR future doubts etc are just undermining my confidence. I know the car is great, but right now my finances are a little weak and walking away from the liability does seem a sensible route....

My whole family don't want me to get a new one (for obvious reasons in their minds, they believe I was close to death in the last one) . I feel close to death some days but don’t we all. If I bought a new one and lost me shirt on it as well I’d be doomed!

So I though I come to you guys for some of your unbiased guidance

Cheers

David

Honest response?

Buy one that's currently available in a dealers.

In the lead time to getting the car, get some advanced driver training.

Sorry if its not what you wanted to hear...

David,

Look at it another way - if you didn't get a new Sagaris, what would you buy instead? And don't forget that whatever you buy will have to pass my drive-by seal of approval, so it's got to be LOUD

Don't know about that - I've got a few miles to do this weekend, need to at least get past the 250 before we leave! Packing can wait!

I'm in a similar position David. I really want one but I'm too nervous at the moment to spend £40-£50K on a car that may plummet in price depending on what happens to TVR.

I did look at another 911, but it's a bit boring these days. I've decided to buy a cheap run around for now and see what happens over the next 2 months, if TVR continue to trade then I'll buy one.

Honest response....

Take the money and walk (and wait!). Reason being two fold:

1. TVRs future is in the air right now and even me with my die hard love of TVR wouldn't spend that kind of money on a TVR in the current climate
2. If the rumours I hear are true (see the thread in the main TVR board i started), then the Saggy is going to get an overhaul soon which could go in your favour.

Buy yourself something fun for the time being, and sit tight, is my advice.

Disagree. Life is too short.
If for any reason there are further problems with TVR, what is the chance of you getting hold of another Sagaris?
Get back in the saddle as soon as you can - 12-14 weeks is the end of the summer - what's the point in waiting for that?
Pick one out of the PH Classifieds - you are saving 10-15K immediately, and have a car that has already been run in.
You also know the cars, and will deal with any isues that may arise that much more effectively this time around.

Re family, you know the error you made, and are unlikely to repeat it.

Expect to hear your choice within the next few days - that is, which car you have chosen!!
Best of luck!!

You're a very lucky man - escaped with your body and now wallet intact - You've been there, seen it, done it - now you can either do it again or move on....

I would only get market value for my old car as a cash settlement. So part of me says having a brand new one is a good idea..... if I can get one soon!

On the other hand I could just buy something sensible for now. I could be out of TVR's for some time if I go down that route. It'll be hard to persuade the other half that a TVR is a good idea.

My mood at the moment is to take the cash settlement and then see what I can do.

One side question.... do you know what is happening to the remains of your Sag??? I'm thinking there is a very very good engine there.... would go very nicely in a T350....

How big is the spread btwn the value of the new car and the cash settlement they are offering? I wonder if it gives you room to do a deal with the dealer? E.g. he'll take the new Sag off your hands when it is delivered ... either for cash or maybe for part-ex on something else he's got in stock which he can let you have now?

The dealer has been as creative as posible I think. There are not many stock new cars though. In fact not many second hand either and you have to like the colour etc.

Surely brand new car is worth more than the cash settlement? If you sell it straight away you'll get more for it than the current market value of your old car no?Well this is what I'd be telling my missus anyway...

Only if you can sell it........

The list price is £53k market value is £46k. I think there is some movement on the £46k so the gap is quite small.
