T350 - Filling the Screen Wash Bottle

At the risk of sounding stupid, can anyone tell me if there is a right (I think I've found the wrong) way of filling the screen wash bottle on my T350T. I attempted to do this, for the first time, yesterday and it ended up like a scene from a Keystone Cops movie.
I tryed it with the bonnet down and couldn't reach the top of the bottle, likewise with the bonnet up. I then pulled the bottle from its mounting and dropped it into the engine bay. Eventually I held it at an angle and got someone else to fill it. However when I reattached it to its mountings the rubber tube that feeds the wipers had come undone and the water poured from the bottle into the engine bay again. Eventually I reattached the tube and what I though was an easy job was finished!!!.
Please tell me there is a better way.
