Increased oil consumption, should I be bovvered?

I don’t know why I’m posting this, as I probably already know the answer!
I checked my oil level just before I took it to SP, the Thursday before Supercar Sunday, and it was just above the max mark on the dipstick (didn’t drive it too much after the 12K service, due to clutch paranoia!)
I have just checked the oil level again (both when hot and cold), and it is well below the half way mark, between min and max on the dipstick, it took a quarter of a can of Mobil 1 to get back up to max.
Is this directly related my ‘slightly’ worn valve guides, or the fact that it has had some hard driving (only ever when thoroughly warmed up, I hasten to add) the past week or so, or both?
I had planned to have a top end rebuild at it’s next service, next year, hope it doesn’t happen sooner!

No odd noises that I can hear, still sounds fab! It's just never used so much oil before! It's too expensive to take the engine out, just for a diagnosis, so I'll wait 'till something happens! lol

So its used 1/4 litre of oil in how many miles Chris?
I wouldn't panic. I suspect that the levels you recorded may have been under differnt conditions, and that due to clutch paranoia, the cars use may have been more stop start than normal.
Advice? Get it well and truely warmed up, check the oil, zero the trip and check it after another 250 miles of what your normal driving pattern is. Give us some feed back after that time, but relax, is not excessive.

Presumably you're talking about 1/4 of a 4litre tub of oil (i.e. 1 litre)? I think it's unlikely that you've suddenly got an engine problem based on an apparent increase in oil consumption. I'd be more inclined to think your driving style may have changed (probably 'cause the wheels are improving your car so much you can drive it that bit harder
). As suggested above, keep a close log of what's going on, and in the meantime, don't panic!!!basil brush said:
What grade of Mobil 1 is in it? Mine drinks the 0/40 stuff at that kind of rate when being driven hard, and has done for the 3 years/20k miles I've had it.
I think it was 5W 40 at the last service, not long ago, but I have 2x4ltr lots of 0W 40 Mobil 1, which I use to top up - I think perhaps I may have over reacted, (again!) Not like me to panic and worry! (
) I guess I have been driving it harder, as I haven't driven it much until the clutch was replaced, so I've been getting a huge fix, as my son found out today taking him home - he said, "Dad, did I just see 125 (kph!) on the Road Angel?", I just said no, thats the distance to the nest speed camera!
SP - Gave the car a good wash and wax this afternoon, and of course the wheels! can hardly get my little hands in-between the tyres and arches to clean - they are huge!! lol
First don't use Mobil 1 or any similar motor oil in a worn engine. It just gets through the worn parts more readily. Use a high wax motor oil like Penzzoil. After about 1-2,000 miles on that, check you oil usage again over the next 1,000 miles. If it's over 1 liter it's probably time for a rebuild.
I wouldn't worry, I think it also depends on the type of oil you use ie synthetic / semi etc , how you drive etc....my audi drinks gallons of the stuff and its all tickety boo.
Before my rebuild the car was using about a litre every 400 miles or so btw
