as the title says really! The Tam gets used everyday which means the roof comes off and goes back on at least once a day. The roof rubber on the driver's side at the front is coming out of its channel. That's the corner that goes in first into the boot.

I can see why it comes out as it rubs when being put into/out of the boot. I have tried to put the rubber back in the channel, but it comes out again.

Anyone else get this and anything to be done about it?

BTW, I have only had the car a few weeks (it's a year old) and I spent most of that in foreign parts. I have done about 600 miles and it is just a brill car. Even SWMBO who is a bit scared of cars drove it today and apart from being terrified to drive my P&J actually enjoyed it!!

Hi Graham,

'Fraid that it's a common problem. Had mine since April (done nearly 6000 miles!) and mine does it too. I bought a Leven roof panel bag (for the Chim and Griff but it fits) which helps a lot.

There was a thread about this a week or two ago, but can't remember the outcome. People were talking about glueing the rubbers in and possibly screwing them too.

Glad you're enjoying the car. They really are fantastic... Smile a mile...

Same with me actually. Having the same problem. Can anyone advise on this before it gets worse? Thanks

I get this problem aswell. Have to keep threading the roof rubber back into the roof rubber channel everytime I take the roof off It is rather annoying but tolerable. I'm a bit nervous about glueing the roof rubber into the roof rubber channels because if either roof rubber gets damaged then you can't replace them without a new roof

Ditto.

Hey! Small price to pay for TVR fun AND topless driving......

I keep a black bin liner in the boot (on the lower left hand side) so that when I put the roof in it slides easily into the boot. Problem cured. It seems to be the coarseness of the boot carpet that causes the problem.

I solved it by getting a heavy duty carrier bag and
cutting down 1 side to create a sleeve, works great.

My solution (from 4 years ago! - the metal rubber channel is screwed to the roof panel. Peelthe rubber out to expose the most forward screw, and remove it. The rubber is basically a tube, so pierce it straight through with a small screwdriver. Use EvoStick glue to glue the rubber back in, then put the channel screw back in by screwing through the hole you've made, but only screw through the first side of the rubber - stop when the screw head grips the inner wall, effectively glueing and screwing the rubber into place. It works really well, and it isn't difficult to pull it out if the rubber needs replacing.

I had this with my Tam - "threading it" back in is very difficult, but the factory showed me a quick way.

If you stretch the rubber out, it simply pushes into place, the let go and it expands into the slot.

...am I explaining that right?

P.S Graham, I assume your boot lid opens almost vertical to make roof entry/exit a lot easier ? If not search the forum re: putting washers/spacers above & below the boot strut. Key to stopping the rubbers coming off is to not rub/press against them when putting the roof away or getting it out.

Done all these so far, except the screw-glue thing. Is it really easy to unglue if necessary?

My leven bag seamed to do the trick for me. If its the trailing rubber the non triangle bit, then its easy to put in using the technique described.

thanks all for the advice. My bootlid has to be pushed up to get the top in so maybe there's something to do there as well.
