clocking to many miles up

I have been suspecting my cars mileage to to be going up to quickly for a while now and yesterday it was confirmed on a trip up to Newcastle. The round trip was supposed to be 128 miles and my car clocked up 147.

Is this a common problem and is there a solution ?

Happened to me too when the car was new (Jan '02). Pod was sent back to the factory to correct.
