I had a beautiful weekend in the Cotswolds, hammering the Tamora round some country roads. The missus and I got in the car Sunday afternoon to head back to London, I had a quick check at the oil and water levels and all was well. I got within about 10 miles of London and the water sensor warning started flashing at me, steam started coming out – time for a little rest on the hard should. Opened the bonnet up to see the cap on my cooling system had popped off and I found it melted to the engine!! I guess I didn’t screw the cap on properly when I checked the levels but was surprised it got 100 miles or so before it went
I filled her up with evian stuffed a cloth down the tube and used a hair band to secure it. This repair lasted about 5 miles and pulled in again, called the aa out this time and his repair just about got me home despite smoke bellowing out of the poor thing. To top it off I had some w**ker shouting to me that I should have got a Porsche!!
TVR London have got a new cap in the post to me, I just hope i haven't caused any lasting damage!

Bad luck. Hope it's ok - but anyone who's tempted really mustn't ever drive for more than a few moments without a cap on, once your engine's warm!

The coolant needs to be pressurised, without it it will just boil and you can't see the worst effects - boiling means that air bubbles form, especially around the engine & cylinder head.... meaning virtually no cooling there! Localised overheating will quickly damage any engine.

My Tam also boiled over on Sunday in traffic in Leicester see "Gotta keep moving post" think all is ok, did you notice if your fans kicked in?? worth checking out. There is also the expansion bottle mod to keep things running a bit cooler.

I tried my best to clear out all the bubbles each time i refilled the water and the fans were kicking in but still not a nice experience. I wouldn't have even thought about trying to get her home if i wasn't so close! I'm going to pop her into the garage before i use her again to see in i've done any lasting damage. Fingers crossed
