Decided to take the Tiv to get the front wheels balanced.
1st one to come off was the near side. Inspection shows that the inside wall of the tyre around the rim has an almost continuous crack in the rubber all the way round.
The tyre is a two year old Goodyear.
Is this a manufacturing fault? Is it worth chasing it?
The upshot is I'll need to replace it.
Now the embarrasing bit. Both fronts are the originals and have done 19000 miles and they still have 6-7mm tread.
Yes OK, I don't go round bends fast enough is what your saying!
Any reason not to replace just the faulty one?

I would replace both fronts. Uneven tyres may cause the car to twitch when accelerating. I found this when I had one new rear tyre fitted.
Better to be safe than sorry.
Also from the sound of the tear in your tyre, it was probably a good thing not to have taken bends at a high speed.
