Alarm - help/advice needed please!!??

Not sure if I should be posting this......
.........however would be grateful if anyone could shed some light!
My motion sensor is set quite sensitive i.e. the alarm goes off when opening the garage door or when people are wandering around the car when taking a close look. This used to be a little bit annoying but recently has become quite comforting because at least I know that my alarm is working. Over the last couple of weeks, when opening the garage door, I seem to be only setting the alarm off about 7-8 times out of 10. The doors are locked and the immobiliser has kicked in but can't get the alarm to go off for love nor money - like I said, most of the time it works fine but every now and then it doesn't seem to recognise any motion at all (when its playing up, i can't even get the indicators to flash).
I'm not sure I've even got a problem, but given that most of the time it takes only a slight motion to set the alarm off, I'm worried that my alarm is not working all the time.
Any thoughts or similar experiences would be very much appreciated.
