How do you measure the oil level ???? the dipstick says immediatly after stopping engine - by the time I have taken it out wiped it and put it back in again there is nothing on the dip stick at all is this because there is no oil in it ? or is it that I am not immediate enough ? am doing a track day tomorrow so don't want to blow the engine up It was serviced approx 1500 miles ago and I don't think its had any oli since ( I 've recently bought it )

Also anyone know what oil I should top it up with will my 10w 40 shell plus do ?? also waht sort of oli consumption do they have

Any advice very welcome -- I'm gatting desperate

Cheers

Are you sure the oil is not so clean you can't see it? Mine is like that and you have to look really closely to see where the oil mark is. Definitely get someone else with a Speed Six engine to check it at the trackday if you're not sure.

10w 40 sounds good, but only if you've had your 6000mile service done. Before then the car's run on semi-synthetic to allow for a little wear to run in properly. After that fully synthetic which is what your shell 10w 40 sounds like. You shouldn't mix the two so find out.

Regarding no oil on the dipstick, mine did the same thing only yesterday. The key thing is to check it after a reasonable run. The engine has to be up to proper temp before checking the oil. I checked mine after a bit of ticking over and it wasn't enough - no oil was visible on the dipstick. Took it out for a run and checked it again and there was plenty. 'tis dry sump system you see and so correct measurement only possible after a run.

hope this helps

you'll love the saggy round the track, they are superb.
