some advice please on buying the t350
Discussion
Me again,
I previously posted when i was considering buying a TVR or a Vauxhall 220 turbo.
I've now got my heart set on a TVR. Previously swaying towards the Tamora but now the t350 has caught my eye and have a little bit more cash to play with.
I have £25,000 to spend on the car so was wondering what i should be aiming at (ie age miles) for that kind of money. Was hoping to get 12months warrantee with that as well.
I also live in the Cannock in south staffordshire but am prepared to travel to find the right model. Can you lot give me any tips and what to look out for... or some links to web sites.
Thanks.

Hi Matthew,
First of all, congratulations on choosing a TVR, great choice! Secondly, wrong model fella - you want the Tamora
... The classified section on this site is a pretty good place to start looking (www.pistonheads.co.uk/sales/) then click on TVR... With £25,000 you will get a decent car. You have 2 choices of where to get it from:
1). Go to a dealer, pay more but get their warranty.
2). Pay less and buy private without a warranty.
If you buy private, ALWAYS get a full 100 point inspection done by a TVR dealer (around £250) but worth every penny. This will tell you if there is anything wrong with the car (can then use this as a bargaining tool when negotiating price). Once you have done this, buy a year's warranty WITH wear and tear. I paid £1,288 for mine through London TVR. It has already paid for itself with one diff going and the radiator leaking everywhere! Also bare in mind, if the engine goes (which isn't uncommon if previous owners haven't let it warm up before opening it up) then you are looking at around £5,000 for a rebuild.
Personally, I would look privately as I think you can get a better deal than some dealers, get a 100 point inspection done and then buy a 1 year warranty with wear and tear for a year's trouble free driving.
Flagpole.

Or you also could buy private with a warranty. Some of us have the extended factory warranty for instance. You can get one for your 25k budget.
In 2 weeks time mine will be for sale for £25k and it has 9 months left on its extended warranty. While I'm away on business next week the car is getting £1,000 of headlight resealing and a complete front end respray (tiny peel in lacquer near headlamp so might as well get it done properly).
BTW, if it doesn't sell I don't car - it will be worth the same next summer and I certainly haven't stopped enjoying it every time I sit in it.

So why not the t350... Why's the tamora so much better?
I don't think it matters greatly which model you get, Tamora or T350C/T. They are effectively the same car under the skin, if you want a full drop top go for the Tamora. If you don't, go for the T350C. If you can't decide, go for a T350T. Either way you will get a car which is as individual as you are. Something that stands out from the crowd and,IMHO gives more driving pleasure and satisfaction than any other vehicle. Test drive each before making up your mind, but please guys, let's not get into the, "mine's better than yours" arguement. We all think we have the prettiest wife/car so we tend to be a little biased! We should just celebrate that such cars exist and there are people such as ourselves, with the will and guts to drive them.
Whatever you get, I hope you enjoy it!

Hi Guys,
I am following the buyers guide threads as I too am thinking of going from my Elise S2 to a 350.
Does the warranty, either factory or approved cover the dreaded engine rebuild?
Thanks,
BN

The 3 year factory warranty on new cars does. The extended TVR warranty does - no limits to claims, wear and tear option available too.
I'm sure most other aftermarket warranties cover this to some extent - but many have a maximum claim limit and there is a risk of them trying to get "due to wear and tear".
Hi,
Buying from a dealer on a car like a TVR in my opion is probably the best option. I bought my Tamora from Drivestyle and got £2500 knock of the list price, 12 month warranty and a service making it about £500 more than buying privately, peace of mind for £500 is well worth it in my opinion and without the hassel of getting an independant report.
Remember to haggle agrresively, walk out the door if you have to. They play games too!! "I'll just call my boss and see what we can do" we have all heard that one. The sales people need to shift cars quickly and it's always best to go buy at the end of the month when they have to meet their quota for that month. It worked for me. Good luck and don't buy the first you see!.
