Hi all

I have noticed that when cruising at very light throttle openings (eg 50mph in 4th or 5th) my car sometimes momentarily loses power - it feels like it is running on 3 or 4 cylinders rather than 6 but I don't know that for sure - fuel starvation would give similar symptoms - opening the throttle a bit seems to cure it but it is very annoying. Anybody got any ideas what this might be??

I do not get any error codes, fuel tank is full, everything is nice and dry.... car is an 04 T350

TIA

Cheers

Jerry

Might be the throttle pots.

Hope all is well, the symptoms could reveal many different problems.I had the same on my 04 T350. Engine is back at the factory.I am still waiting to hear what the exact problem is.Glass is still half full etc..I d miss it tho. Five weeks and counting.

I am with Prof, I also had same problems on my 04 T350, engine is also back at the factory....6 weeks here too but at least we will be getting 06 spec rebuilds just hope that actually means something in terms of better parts etc

In the end with mine it was only running on 5 cylinders, awaiting prognosis but I suspect a valve is stuck open, bent etc etc

Good luck hope yours is not as serious

Prof Pat, Scotty - you'll notice a nice difference with an 06 top end. Mine got that when the headgasket went South. The car is much much quieter on cold startup now - no knocking or clanking like a bag of nails any more.

Oh, BTW, are your delays due to your local dealer? Mine took 2 weeks to take out of the car (dealer backlog and the engine in/out work needs their top mechanic for 2 days) and 2 weeks to get back in the car. The factory rebuild part was only around 1 week wait (allowing another week for the transport of the engine up/down receiving/shipping prep at both ends.

Good to here about the 06 spec, will certainly help my confidence if there is a noticable difference in noise....

Yes to be fair I had a couple of weeks wrangling over liability etc then a weeks wait because the engine department were moving factory, then they weren't etc etc etc. Anyway engine has now been there for a week so hopefully early next week the dealer will get it back..

A qs for you...did they do a top end engine rebuild on yours becuase water etc passed through the blown head gasket??

I have no idea why, we never do find out with TVR. Maybe something on my top end was a bit worn and they decided to do the whole lot. My dealer got the hint they'd replaced some bits at the same time as doing the HG during a phone call when they were told "the engine is nearly ready to send back, we're just changing some bits". Upon starting the engine it was quite clear this was the case as it sounded and felt different.

Ok thanks, I wish we would get a break down of what is replaced, all the cloak and dagger doesn't help with confidence ..

The joys of TVR ownership
