Hi, what is normal oil pressure for a speed six, I have 44psi from cold and 19psi when hot, is this about right.
Thanks
Andy

I don't think so. Mine runs at 45-46psi when hot and 50psi when cold.

Maybe you need oil pressure sender unit mark 2 fitted.

i agree little bit low.

Totally cold mine's at 60-70 psi at tick over and fully hot sits about 25-35

Seems there is a lot of variation.
Mine is approx 50 at tickover (700-800 rpm) when cold and increases to 55 at 2500rpm.
At its hottest, oil temp 90, the pressure is 17 at idle rapidly rising to 48-55 at 2000rpm.
For normal running the oil temp is between 60-70 and pressure 25 at idle, again rising to 48-55 at 2000rpm.
The pressure doesn't seem to increase after that, even at 6000rpm it stays at 48-55

Hi Andy,

Sounds normal if you are measuring at idle.

Ideally you should measure hot at 2000 revs which, if I remember correctly (will check when I get home), should read 35psi+.

Rgs,

Paul

Edited to change the revs as specified in manual.

I had similar concerns over oil pressure when I was looking to buy my car. The various cars I tested had different oil pressures, in some cases, very low at idle. In the end I spoke to a mechanic at my local dealership and he told me that the oil pressure should be 10psi per every 1000 rpm when the engine is hot. Hope that helps.

O.k. thanks for that, I also rang a dealer and he gave it as 1 psi for every 100 when hot so I don't think I've any worries just yet. He also suggested 0W 40 oil is too thin and should consider using 10W 50 in the future.

To high your OPS is not working properly, so any reading you get will be incorrect. The only way to tell your engines OP is with an OPT.

I thought about 4 bar cold(10-15 degrees) is normal as it needs high pressure when the oil is cold to push it round the engine. The when it warms up doesn't need to be as high say about 1.5 - 2 bar.

18 psi at tick over is just over a bar and seems too low to me.

1 bar to push v.cold oil round a big engine??

my cousins skyline r34 gtr sits at 5 bar OP when cold

I was told that it should be around 30psi idle and then go up 10psi every 1000rpm ??
