DAB in the 350
Discussion
Hi all
I've done a bit of reading around the various forums on here and it seems the solution to getting decent radio reception in our TVRs is to go for a DAB receiver (assuming of course the DAB coverage is reasonable...)
It seems we have two options:
1 - buy a Pioneer DAB receiver to connect to our Pioneer head units that TVR fitted (which I am otherwise perfectly happy with BTW)
2 - replace head unit with one with DAB built in
The Pioneer DAB receiver is quite expensive - almost as much as a new head unit - so cost isn't really a factor here. I am looking for the solution that will give the best reception.
What interests me most is which setup would work best, and I would really appreciate any feedback from anybody who has installed either setup - including what aerial you used, and how well you can receive DAB signals.
Also - it looks as though the Pioneer unit requires a 'proper' (I think dedicated Pioneer) aerial - if you have installed this unit, where have you put this? Come to that, where have TVR put the FM aerial???
The 'easy' option for the DAB head unit option seems to be a windscreen mounted aerial. Again - if you have tried using one, how well have you found it works??
Also - of course - any other thoughts on this subject would be gratefully received!!
I need to sort out the rubbish FM reception - it's driving me nuts. My 350 is my everyday car, and I do like my radio 4 in the morning.....
TIA
Cheers
Jerry

I fitted a Blaupunkt DAB 54 Woodstock (I think) to my brother's BMW. DAB ariel just stuck to the bottom edge of the windscreen below the tax disc. Works great. Lovely head unit too. Takes SD cards so no more messing around with CDs (I have a non DAB SD/USB enabled head unit in my T350).
Never tried the Pioneer DAB add ons.

Thanks Targa - that's the alternative head unit I am considering, so that's useful feedback.

in my tam the aerial is in passenger front wing - kinda bent between the pannels (you have to see it to believe how they put it there, andi cant imagine for a min that no one could have come up with a better place)!
reception is not good - in the time i'v had mine i'v either used cd's / fm modulator for my mp3 player / or listened to the speed6's engine's own track
