When I start the Tamora I always disengage the clutch. I do this because it is less load on the engine, battery, and starter motor, well I thought, but in a discussion this weekend, disengaging the clutch on start up can damage the engine and clutch. I have done this with all my cars.

Any thoughts scratchchin.

I've always done the same with the Tamora but never before with any other car.
Reason I do it is because the handbook advises to do it.
Cheers.... Andrew

I do it on all my cars and always have. It would be interesting to understand why the dealer beleives the engine and clutch could be damaged.

Curious.

'twas me and Icraigmy discussing this on the weekend, I have always started the car with the clutch depressed as that was what the manual told me to do, whilst being tutored by a race instructor he saw me doing this and explained that we are told to do this for safety reasons and in fact this can cause premature wear with the clutch, the reasoning was something along the lines of the amount of load you are putting on the thrust bearing/crank with the clutch depressed and the fact that until the engine is spinning there is no oil to lubricate it? But don't quite recall the full explaination, would be interested in what others think.
