Since buying my T350 i have yet to get the handling to my liking.

I have fitted Nitrons and Ferodo Ds 2500 brake pads, but under braking the car is very difficult to keep in control above 120ish.

I tried a dealer in the IOM to check Tracking(which they did ok), but Camber and Toe/in to be honest i think there a bit lost with it!

My question is who is the closest and best on TVR set up to me?

I do realise it will be in the UK so means a ferry crossing, but just want it sorted!

Thanks Paul

I had terrible handling problems with my Tam, braking at high speed was dangerous to say the least and tramlining was a big problem. I took it to Top Cats Racing near Aylsebury last week and they did a full geometry set up and fitted nitrons. You would not believe the difference, whereas on a high speed straight road that was a little bumpy the car tended to have a mind of its own, now it just sits there in a straight line and I can go faster than before. High speed braking is all sorted out, I can jam on the anchors and she pulls up in a straight line, and the problem of tramlining has been resolved. Top Cats use there own set up and not TVR's, it works.
Give them a ring, speak to Warren 01296 655109. I tried a TVR dealer and an indy but they could not sort the problem out. It's like owning a new car. beer

Thanks you descripe your handling on your Tam just as though you are driving my 350!

I am glad, if you know what i mean that you have experienced the same problems as me. I went for a drive last night and came home depresed because i was so concerned about the way it handles.

I will give them a call and maybe go for a drive to Aylesbury!

Thanks again.

Could not agree more with what John has said. Topcats are the best in the south for setting up your car. They did mine and it stops as straight as an arrow

Word of advice: Get the geometry sorted and then see if it's good enough/if you still want to upgrade to Nitrons.

Nitrons are fab (having had them on two Tivs previously)... but the handling on the T350/Tam should be good enough for most people without needing this. I've driven more modern Tivs that haven't been set up right than have, though - definitely the first thing to fix!

Having another read of your post it may not be your cars fault that it drifts on braking, check it out on a track if its ok then its our beautiful rutted potholed third world roads.

But having nitrons and 2500 pads doing 120mph i guess you were on track

I did notice that when I had my T350, it was sensitive to tyre pressures, a couple of lb less made all the difference to the nervy feel at speed.

I found this as well 28psi on 18s was not good on my T350 I dropped every tyre to 24psi and this made a huge difference although it is still very jumpy under acceleration at around 80 +

Well a couple of points, i got Nitrons as well as Ferodos because i have read on p/hs that they had been highly recommended.

I bought my car for pure plessure and wanted it well equiped hence the fittment of the above.I felt very early on in ownership the handling wasn"t great, so orderd parts then after found geometry was very important.
So i may have done things the wrong way round but as long as i get the result i am after i can live with that.

As being in the IOM this has dis and advantages, disadvantages in this case no TVR specialists and very bumpy roads(worst in Europe)!

Advantages, a open speed limit so can go 120mph on the roads as long as safe to do so!

Oh and yes i have too experimented with tyre pressures, chap i bought car of suggested 26 front 28 rear, then asked again on p/hs and went 24 all round which was better. Then spoke to Jacko at Peninsular he suggested trying 22 front 24 rear which did not make too much difference.

I think there is a underlying problem, ie geometry as the car is scarey driving fast, some times scarey is fun but not this scarey.

Uneven surfaces and pot holes, yes this makes car a little more nervous than i am experiencing, but the odd smnooth road we do have the car still is not plesant driving fast, then hitting the brakes is just not nice at all.Its a effort to keep the car in a straight line!

Yep topcats are the boys.
While I was up at Ian's place at Middlewich a few weeks back we did a T350 and I have rarely seen a car that was so out of alignment, get it checked out soon, you will probably be amazed at the difference.

Spoke to Warren this morning, he told me to jack up wheels and spin them to ensure wheels are not dammaged.

Also need to speak to Nitron to ensure the ones i bought are the latest ones, as they upgrade them/or change spring weights.

This is, as traveling quite away, and to iliminate problems while with them.

Intend to go over in two to three weeks time. I will travel over on a Sunday have a drive around UK and Top Cats will do car Monday, then ferry home that night so will work out OK.

Thanks for your help.

How much does a ferry to the IOM cost? Fancy arranging a TVR meet? evil

You have been reading my mind a little on that one, i have been thinking about it myself. I would orgainise one yes that would be good.

Only last week there was about 20 Porshe"s over.

I think Ferry would be approx £120 to £140 return for one car and two people, it depends on sailing times and dates.

If there was enough interest i would organise one with the help of my girl friend as she is very good at organisation!
