I posted my comments below on the General Gassing Forum, but wondered if this Forum would be a better place for them.

"Am I missing something or does it just not stack up ?. The T350c is the heaviest car in the range after the Cerb which seems to weigh in at around 1,200kg. That makes the T350c 13kg lighter than the Cerb even though it is a much smaller car - aparently the Cerb has a roll cage too (pardon my ignorance), so why is the T350 only slightly lighter ?.

Also, the Tuscan is a bigger car than the T350, has a roll cage and yet weighs in at 87kg less (Targa version), so where does the T350 get all its extra (14 stones) weight from ?.

And finally, the Sag is a bigger car (though only just) than the T350, has a roll cage yet also manages to weigh less than the T350 (109kg less). Again where is the T350 picking up all its extra (a 17 stone prop forward) weight from ?.

It doesn't stack up as far as I can see. I have trouble believeing the T350 really weighs 1,187kg - either that or all the others weigh more."

I think the T350C weighs 1090kg IIRC.

According to the Owners Handbook: 1180kg.

I weighed my 4.2 Cerb a few weeks ago on a weighbridge and it came in at 1190kg with 1/3 tank of fuel. You are right though, a T350 must be the lightest of the new TVRs given its size.

I think there's a lot of false, or shall we say, misleading information out there regarding weights of all TVRs. In the past TVR tended to quote weights for basic vehicles, i.e. no options like aircon, whereas they have started to quote weights inclusive of things like aircon for the newer cars, in some instances.

A good example of this, and to clear things up is the Sagaris. Autocar's test quoted a claimed 1,078kg, but it weighed in for test (with aircon) at 1,187kg. That would seem more inkeeping with the T350C handbook quote of 1,180kg. Out of curiosity could a 'gris owner state what weight is quoted in their handbook?

Now Autocar also quote the Tuscan Mk1 at 1,090kg. That's slightly more than claimed for the 'gris, so I would guess in reality it's probably closer to 1,200kg. The T350C figure starts to look reasonable now.

Going back to the Cerbera (claimed 1,178kg 4.5), I doubt this is with aircon etc, yes it's a bigger car, but it doesn't have the crash protection of the newer cars (no side impact bars if I recall correctly) so it's probably not surprising it appears to be lighter as quoted than the T350C.

So 1,100-1,200kg, does it really matter? At least we can know our cars are a good deal lighter than your average Porker. The 996 GT3 is 1,380kg, that's like driving round with 2 to 3 extra people in the car!

I weighed mine at the local recycling centre weighbridge in Greenford west London and it was 1208kg with me in it but then I am a fat bastard and the weighbridge is no doubt a bit rocky.
Assuming TVR lied and its only making 330 bhp thats still 278 BHP per tonne.
Enough I think

For now...

Nope, Certainly has side impact protection, the doors weight a hell of alot!!! Can confirm having seen the bars myself. Also has a full cage (though for some reason its not bolted down to the chassis at the back) and it would seem the 1100 dry weight isnt far out (1200wet weight approx!)

Thanks BCA, I stand corrected. Also forgot to mention, official kerb weight figures should assume full tank of fuel, so reported weigh bridge figures seem to tie in with the claimed weights for the later cars, 'gris excepted.

I think that's right. Going by the claimed weights, the Tam is 1,060kg, 'gris 1,078kg and Tuscan 1,090kg. Noting AutoCar weighed the 'gris at 1,159kg, and the T350 handbook states 1,180kg (sorry for repetition folks), I would guess the fully specced Tam kerb weight to be nearer 1,140kg, so below the 'gris and the T350.

I'll get back in my boxedin now

I think that's more like it. 1,187kg (see TVR website seems too heavy). What prompted me in the first place to post this thread is that I also have a Chim 500 and recently have been pushing the cars in/out my garage and was surprised that the T350c seemed easier to push and the Chim is supposed to weigh in at 1,060kg (127kg lighter than the T350c). Now that sort of weight differential I would definately notice.

My T350 was weighed at 1100kg when I registered it in Victoria. Just driven it in off of the street no idea how much petrol was in the car.

I contacted VOSA with regards to the fact that all TVRs have the kerbside weight of 1200kgs for the purposes of the MoT. When I asked how they came to this rather strange conclusion, they put me onto a chap who said that he had phoned the Factory for the weights, got through to a woman who said, "They're all 1200kgs." And they had to accept it.

VOSA sugggested taking your handbook, or other evidence of kerbside weight, when having your car MoTd for the handbrake test.

Give the VOSA chap his due, he was in agreement that 1200kg, perhaps, wasn't an accurate estimate so was more than willing to compromise. If the weight is changed on the electrtonic form it goes through to a central checking chap who will be made aware of the vagaries of TVR. I've had mine altered and there was no come-back.
