The car im looking at is an 04/54 T350c done 10k. serviced @1k,2-5k and 7-5k. I do about 6k a year. Dont scare me! is it true about ENGINE rebuilds????

Mine's an 04 too, run from new now at 21k with no engine probs. There are some 04's at 30-40k & no significant probs.

Appear to be no major engine issues reported on here with these later S6's, but occasionally get one needing new gaskets, sensors, adjustments, clutch etc.

Rather like Ferraris etc....

Would agree with tailslide as it seems that later cars have a better engine life expectancy. If you are worried then buy it with a warranty.

Sorry mate, but I bought my 04 with 12k and I have just had a factory rebuild completed and I am running it in at the moment..

If you go for it spend £1500 and get a warranty and include the wear and Tear then that way your safer..

Whether it'll need one or not, factor the cost of a rebuild (say, £5-6k) into the purchase price, then think about what other sub-supercar you could buy for that kind of cash. Cheap at twice the price, IMO.

General rule is to buy as late as you can and as scotty says, get the warranty on top and it is hassle free motoring! I've had a couple of issues with my car but they've been sorted under warranty no questions asked

Mine's a 2002/51 and did 30,000 miles with no engine problems.
At its 30,000 mile service it was recommended it be rebuilt/blue-printed.
As the engine was out the original clutch was replaced even though it was still okay. It's since been sold on.
Car's now at 39,000 miles.

So I agree you ahould always buy as new as you can afford but don't agree that "older cars are unreliabale".

Cheers.... Andrew

alt did you get the engine rebuilt ?? that seems a bit naughty to me why recommend to someone they spend the best part of 5k when there isn't actually a problem

Sorry, I should have been clearer. Even though it didn't go pop it wasn't running well which I thought was because it was due a service (it cut-out when approaching junctions when cold). The service showed it was running on five cylinders and down on compression. So without a rebuild it would have let me down.
So that's still 30,000 miles for a very early Tamora...
Cheers... Andrew

ah I see, my issue was exactly the same "running on five cylinders and down on compression"

53K and counting.
Regular use and occasional track escapades. Scrupulous servicing, and careful warming up and running in. I don't usually hang around when driving but do drive with a fair amount of mechanical sympathy. I keep a close eye on oil and coolant levels but beyond that I'm not a fan of tinkering.
Maybe I've been lucky . . . . .
