Hi all

I know this question must have raised it's head many times before but how much should my 12k service cost me?

Yes is is like asking how long is a piece of string!

Three weeks ago I purchased a winter runaround with the full intention of leaving the TVR in the garage until March when I was intending to have the 12k service. However I have missed it so much that I have changed my mind and although will be using my Rover!!!! (oh the glamour)for the daily grind I intend to continue using the TVR when the weather will allow. Hence my 12k service will be a few months earlier than expected.

The car will be going to Drivestyle in Harrogate and is currently under warranty there.

Any answers or pointers in the direction of similar posts will be most welcome.

Cheers - Rippers

Martin, this seems to vary depending on who you take it to. Prepare to pay between £700 to £1000.

Does having the warranty count for anything at servicing?

Servicing and warrranty are a seperate entity.

Look upon your servicing as preventive maintainence.

So this bassically will help to keep your car in better shape and less prone to problems.

It is your responsability to keep on top of servicing and it's costs a warranty will not help to pay for servicing.

Your warranty is bassically for mechanical/electrical type failure's only.

Well worth a weekend stay in Cheshire (or wherever he is) for the next service.

Nice beer up there, anyway.

Snap! Same here!

Although mine was £ 800, but not a sponge or bucket in sight!

If you do park it up, I´d recommend running the engine every couple of days or so. Speed 6 motors don´t seem to like being left for long periods.

I thought that they charged just over 1000 with "tappets". Were there any extras??!!

There is NO way this guy can be carrying out a good 12k service.
6-8 hours,all the fluids changed,filters,s/plugs,track + cambered,spannered,brake clean out,greased etc etc.
The parts and oils will have exceeded that price.
If he is doing a good 12k then he is under pricing himself which is good for TVR owners but not himself.

I was charged £630 plus VAT alone for labour @ £55 plus VAT per hour which is approximately 11 1/2 Hours work, parts alone were £182 plus VAT = £214.
I cannot see how it could be done for £250 all in.

It's amazing how prices can vary so much for a 12K service!

If you look on TVR Powers website they list all work that is required, and its a fair lot of work very labour intensive.

It makes you wonder if,

A, some dealers are over charging for being a specialist type service center.

B, some dealers undercutting specialts dealers in cost but not being so thorough on the work they carry out.

It would be interesting to see a breakdown of all work carried out between the top price and the bottom to see what is and isn't done.

I think i would prefere to send my car to a good reputale garage and get the job done as i would expect it to be for my money. After all a 12K service only comes once! And it's worth paying extra IF it's done better than others!

I would be concerned putting my car into a garage who charges £600 less than others!
