Hello

Got a problem with my clutch impossible to get reverse (have to stop engine) TVR say is not covered by the warantee as its wear and tear - but the car has only done 9900 miles and is less that 18 month old - no other car I've owned has had clutch problems so I'm not heavy on them, the thing is just not good enough

TVR are not having anying any of it and refuse to pay up the only opting they have offered is, the clutch is taken out and sent to the manufacturers to see if they will cover it ( pretty unlikely and I don't fancy having the car in bits for months while they inspect and make up theitr minds) and just wondered if anyone else has had such a problem

Cheers

9900 is bang out of order, but things like clutches and gearboxes are bloody hard to proove it should be warranty if somebody wants to play hardball with you and put it down as your wear and tear. In the current situation, they will fight tooth and nail against warranty stuff anyway Im afraid.

I dont know what the clutch availability situation is like atm, but if you cant get one, Ive got 2 in the goody box.

Ditto, Ditto. Just had replacement clutch through HexhamHC, at approx 12K. Annoying, but had to be done.

I'm doing well at 21k in the T350 then, with a full season's sprinting too. I'm hardly ever in traffic though, which is probably a major factor with the finger problem.

Mine went at 12200 miles but I bought second hand so not a leg to stand on, however it's still completely unacceptable there is clearly a design fault (IMO) for them to go so soon. Lets assume you use the car as a daily driver which isn't unreasonable, as well as ridiculous servicing costs you could be looking at an additional £1200 a year for a new clutch... Try calling someone senior at the factory (if not already) it's worth a try and I can say that from experience....

Clutches are deemed to be a wear and tear item because by their very function they wear or tear. However if they break it is not wear and tear which is why warranty companies (reluctantly) pay out. Take legal advice is the best suggestion I could make - and if you need evidence of further cases just ask for some PMs and watch your inbox fill up. TVR will fight to the death not to pay out - that's what they do. Good luck.

The clutch friction plates are wear items as they are obviously designed to do just that but the fingers are not, this part is actaully the spring mechanism. If thats faulty I'd press for a warranty job.

So somewhere between 6500 and 9900 miles in terms of usage and between six months and eighteen months old in terms of age lies the fine line between acceptable wear and tear and premature failure. Wonder where that line falls? - less than a year old and less than 8000 miles maybe!

When my cerb clutch went at 20K (3 yrs) the friction plate was 50% worn and the fingers were broken, the warrenty co paid 50%.

One would have thought that they would have re-designed the damn things properly by now to avoid all this bull shit....

If you get no joy, contact Clever Trevor or TVRCraft they both do after market clutches, Clever Trevor do a modified standard clutch, where as Craft do an entirely new race clutch which will probably out last your engine. I have one in my car and it is so much better, but the quick bite takes a bit of getting used to.

Good luck
