We all know that the prototype Sag had open vents down the wings, etc, but I just wondered what would actually stop a decent bodyshop from 'opening' the fake vents on the production cars?

I guess you would probably need to fit some kind of deflector under the wheel arches to stop spray from coming up through the vents onto the screen, but is there any legal reason why you can't do it?

I think someone else was saying about producing a complete Sagaris carbon fibre shell for about £10k - which also got me thinking that if you were going to do that, I guess it would be very simple to put the open vents in it whilst it was being made.

That would be me you want to speak to then.

Ive started up a company that opens up the vents on the Sagaris and one or two other things. There are numerous reasons why TVR never did it mostly revolving around cost, hassle, technical issues and time.

Ill send you an email.

Blimey, in the 5 mins between me reading your post and writing the above, RPA has already got in!

Was closing the vents really necessary? Surely putting some mesh under them would've stopped the stones flicking through.

Hey thats excellent.

I currently have a Tam, but I'm also probably going to be getting a Sag in the next week or so (especially as they seem good value for money at the minute). Anyway, one of the first things on the list is to open up those vents evil

I would have thought that some reverse louvres under the vents would stop any stones and so on coming through, you'll always get a certain amount of road much but a fair amount of that gets thrown up by traffic anyway so no big deal.

Factory advice to me was that a 'chimney' would be necessary between the inner wheelarch and outer, not only to allow venting to work properly as on race cars (ie. reduced lift with no drag penalty) but also to avoid rain spray getting into the interior from the wheelarch area. Is this what you've found, DJC? scratchchin

*sigh*

Ok, Im going to repeat what I said above once more..."cost, hassle, technical issues and time"

Once the mould is done so that the vents are closed in, actually cutting them back out again is a right pain in the arse. For the above reasons the job isnt cheap and it actually isnt the easiest in the world either!

Surely if you only cut out the vent on the top of the wing and not cut through into the wheel arch then spray wouldn't come through, it is a double skin???

Not much point unless you are aiming at purely cosmetic result.... and as DJC said, spray/crap coming out of them is not the issue it is made out to be.
Drove the TopCats racing Sagaris at Donnington earlier this year, and that was completely voided through - no spray/crap issue there either.
