But as usual, the road test model was fitted with the low-ratio diff for best acceleration, which wasn't normally fitted in production.
Looking at the max speeds in the intermediate gears in the article, i would have to disagree, with that state ment, however if you said the test car had a 4.0ltr S spec engine then...

Would like to read more reviews of the Tamora when it was launched and any reviews and group tests it appeared in. I have the Evo magazine with a red one on the cover. Any other back issues I ought to start hunting for on eBay!!

Think you'll find that it is. My gearing on a std 3.4 (has the label on it!) diff gives 26.6 mph/1000rpm in 5th, eg 80mph at 3000rpm. Rather higher than it needs so I'm dropping it 15% by changing to a 3.9 diff soon.

Other Tamora articles were printed at about the same time as the EVO magazine article you mention:
Top Gear
Car magazine (I think)
and Autocar as mentioned already)
Also worth a look is EVOs Ecoty issue at the end of 2001.
I have them all at home, so can look up the exact dates if you need them.
Happy reading!

My Tamora was in EVO October 2004 in a group test! It was beaten to 2nd place by a Boxster !!!!
Did they tell you the result before they borrowed your car?
I bought it after it was in the mag. I believe it was registered specifically for this article. It came second because the Porsche is easier to live with and more practical. Exactly why I didn’t buy a Boxster. I wanted a second car as a toy not a shopping trolley. Boxsters are everywhere you look too. Park a Boxster and a Tamora next to each other in the car park and the Tamora will get the most attention. The Porsche has better build quality but it’s dull and not exciting enough. The Tamora has a sports bike feel to it that you just don’t feel in the Boxster. I’m very happy with my purchase even though it has had it’s minor faults. I still grin everytime I open the garage
