de-cats

everyone must be sick of this, anyway i am lead to believe my cats are breaking up, kicking the tail pipes(gently)seems to bring a tinny rattling sound.

i have already sifted through threads looking for answers but it is very mixed and very little evidence of what is write or wrong, i have the power sports pipes, and its just a standard 3.6 so my first question is -

do i get de-cats and keep cats(or whats left) for MOT or de-cats + chip or buy new cats

secondly i have seen tvrcarparts selling cats for £150, think tvr power are £250 +vat for de-cats and chip, djc has his de-cats for £500, or id imagine new cats would cost £600+ so id like to know what prooves most effective and why. i want reasons to back up a purchase...

thanks again for any input

Hey mate. seems to be getting worse and worse round here for Mot's and always the worry of roadside emissions checks. I have ran decat on my other car for 3 yrs or so now, but not anymore. the hastle of finding a garage i could trust to change the cats etc proved such a hastle. If you really do have hollow pockets, get some 100cell race cats made up. won't be cheap but it will allow you to get through the mot, and free up a few hp. if you think your cats are totally gone, get them off and get a broom handle up there. voilla, de cats sure a good Powerflow dealer (i went to ascar in sheffield IIRC for two of my cars) could make some decats too, most other cars are about 150 quid each.

Graham,
I thought your car was for sale? Truly I have never known of any one have as many things to sort on a TVR as your regular basis would seem to imply.
Window cable last time - the car will have been totally rebuilt by June - re registered as a new 07 car maybe! Only having a laugh - all the best with it sure looked good parked up at richards.

iv replaced pretty much most of the car already, lol, nah just lots of niggly things! thumbup

yes well it is/was up for sale, iv decided to keep it another year and spend this summer enjoying it as its an amazing car, i couldnt afford a sag just now, so no point selling this car as theres nothing else i fancy

roll on summer time

i wish i had £500 to throw at a pair of djc's de-cats but i dont right now.

I see tvrcarparts are selling ones for £150 that look the same as the ones I got from peninsula tvr. I assume they do the same job as the £500 ones!

Graham...how often do you want to change your mind over what you are doing?
Have you gone 2 months with the same plan?

Sorry m8, only joking.

High flow cats are an option for you...but they are expensive, and that is wherever or whoever you get em from!
New cats are also rather bloody expensive, hideously so when I was told how much they cost! Both of the above options make our de-cats look cheap.

the tvrcarparts one look very similar(I guess the same) as my one, fitted in May last year. Stainless steel and sound mental! Obviously not MOT friendly though!

Just seen where the cats are situated, are the easy to change if going for the decat option ?

Just being curious - are those in the pic the standard exhaust manifolds on our cars?? I was wondering why a straight six needed two cats :-)

I know this is a bit of sad thing to say but... what a great looking engine the S6 is :-)
Cheers
