235/35/18s on mine at the moment - how it came from the dealer.

For tyre size you're governed by two things:-
- what is the rim width? 8.5J for 255/35/18s minimum i think
- will they rub on the wheel arches?

Plus, you'll alter the overall rolling circumference unless you change the aspect ratio...checkout www.elitedirect.com
Put in your current tyre size and you'll get current setup
Put in 255/35/18 and you'll see the difference it makes to rolling circ., speed, etc.

Hope this helps
Spike

I`ve got 255/35x18s on the rear of the Tamora, they have been on for nearly 5k miles now, no problems what so ever, lowers the car very slightly 5mm, lowers the gearing slightly, should be slightly quicker in the gears as a result? and makes the speedo more accurate according to my Road Angel, dry road grip is also improved slightly due to more rubber on the road, and no rubbing on the arches.

Yes it can be done, on my vehicle I required 265 clearance on the back for track day usage ( occasional), however the problem is that the ride height and corner weighting needs sorting. I have Nitrons on my car so the adjustments were not a problem. I am running 255/35/18 rear and 235/40/18 front goodyear F1's. To achieve this the factory carried out some inner arch modifications. The reason for the extra width at the front was to maintain the rolling profile be it track set up or road use. In this way the suspension settings remain the same apart from the rebound damping which is 12 for road use and 15-17 for track use (15 being usually the best whilst retaining some feel of when the car is going to break away). The advantage to me was factory mod so didnt affect my then current warranty.

I can recommend (highly) www.event-tyres.co.uk I've used them twice now. Brilliant price and you don't even have to drive anywhere. Your rears come in at £280 odd quid all in. Anyone got a picture of a T350 from the back wearing this width?

My T350 had Goodyear GSD3 F1 235/40/18's on the back as standard and they rubbed the arches when fully loaded. The Saggy has 255/35/18's Goodyears on it and they have a smaller rolling circumference,(-10mm), you may be alright changing.

I’ve had 255's on the back of mine for about 7 months, no problems what so ever (only rubbed once & with no mods).

If you put 255's on the rear of a T350 you will need non standard dampers and springs! but they do fit and look very well from the rear.
I have R888 255's on the rear and the only contact was at brands at the bottom of paddock

Why? Presumably because of the extra grip? Surely you'd only 'need' this on track...?

I’m pretty sure I have standard dampers and springs, but I have been wrong before. What make were the standard ones?

No not grip, Wheel rub in corners on the inner arch. You will also need to jack the back up so a clear gap of 40mm is between the tyre and arch.

Why will you need to jack up rear when the overall diameter of teh 255 is 10mm less than the standard tyre?

Its to do with the slope of the inner wing and the width of the tyre.

Thats if your running on the same rims,

255 x 35 x 18 = 636 o/a Dia
235 x 40 x 18 = 645 0/a Dia.

If you changed the off set on 255 tyres you would rub the fuel tank or make matters worse with inner arch rub.

I had 255/30/19"s on the back of my T350t, didn't change anything, infact it solved the rubbing problem i had with the old 235/40/18's.

i have 255s on the back of a standard T350 setup/rims. Had mine installed at silverstone performance.

It is recommended to get them fitted by those who know these cars in order that checks can be made on clearance, geometry etc as each car is different.

look very nice from the back too!

I think the 255/30/19 is the same diameter as the 255/35/18. On my car the 255 width rubbed on hard cornering or heavy compression without raising the back to a 40mm gap between tyre and arch, maybe because they are all hand built they all differ slightly, who knows
