Went round a corner earlier on today and heard a loud knock/ping noise from the rear. Now it makes the knocking noise whenever i go over the slightest bump. Had a look through the rear wheels as best i could and nothing seems to be amiss, although i'm assuming it's probably the shocks, so..........
....i know it's been done to death but, should i use the opportunity to go for nitrons?
Are these ok for general road use (i.e. not too hard) and where's the best place to get them from?
I'm taking the car into Hexham tomorrow to let the guys have a look at it, but i don't think they stock nitrons!
Plus, is it worth thinking about polybushes at the same time?

Could be an anti-roll bar mounting gone ping.
I think the new 'factory' shocks are an improvement over the 'original' ones - there was an article about it recently on PH... I think they come from TVR Power.
Nitrons are adjustable, thus can be made softer or harder depending on how your piles feel on the day.

Anti-roll bar mounting sounds serious!
I needed new rear shocks when i bought the car at 3000 miles and i've now done 20,000 so i wouldn't have thought they would normally go this early (bilsteins).
Starting to wonder if it could have been the a/r bar mounting after all!

It'll be fine to drive without the a/r bar doing its job... just don't throw it into the corners as hard, as it'll be a bit less predictable.
~20k for a set of shocks isn't uncommon.
Full marks to Targarama, it was an anti-roll bar mounting had sheared off!!
I had a feeling it wasn't the dampers as i was driving to hexham because it didn't feel/sound like they were the problem! I even stopped half-way there and wrapped the two cans of tyre weld up in cloths just to make sure it wasn't them i was hearing!!
Richard and the gang at hexham sorted it in about an hour and sent me on my way, so can't recommend them enough! Done under warranty too so paid nothing!
Plus, apparently my car is still on the original factory dampers, so when they go, i might look at getting the factory uprated bilsteins, as i feel that nitrons would be too harsh a ride for me.
Thanks again!
Chris.
