Tamora search!!!
Discussion
Hi everyone, thought id introduce myself as im trying to enter the tvr fold!Ive been reading through loads of old forums trying to gather as much info as poss, driving the mrs insane by constantly being on the net!I fink ive decided on the tamora although i do like the look of the t350 aswell, cant afford both so any help would be apreciated! The mrs finks im mad after hearing all about the speed six engine problems but hey once ive got my heart on something thats it!Fink id regret ending up with a boxter or similar. Its not been as easy as i first thought though, have been on the lookout for couple of months now with no luck upto now!And fink it might take longer now as after reading about the older speed six engines blowing up i fink i might have to look for an 03 onwards instead of an earlier model i first set out for!So budget keeps creeping up!Anyone with advice for me in my search would be great.
Try and go as for as late a model as budgets will allow, or look for say a 52 or 03 thats had a recent engine rebuild to current specs.
If you can get an earlier one in good condition thats had the engine rebuild and hence saved a bit of dosh then maybe you could put the wear & tear warranty on it for peace of mind. (£1300 plus inspection)
Plus its a buyers market so you should get be able to get a bit of discount.
Comments above relate to S6 only as ive never had a tamora, others will help more on car spec and age etc
i fink fat should frow some light on it

I'm going to sound like a broken record here (based on a few other posts I've made recently) but here goes again.....
Speak to Rob Ingleby (www.findasportscar.co.uk)
Several members of the local TVR Car Club praised Rob so I went with their recommendation.
I bought mine about a month ago, and used Rob to carry out inspections for me on a couple of cars.
I'll sum up my thoughts as succinctly as possible: Unless you are a mechanical guru, don't buy a TVR [any TVR - not just a Tamora] from a non-TVR dealer without speaking to Rob first.
The car's magic. It needed a couple of things attended to that I probably would have missed in my excitement, but Rob negotiated an appropriate discount for me to reflect this fact, so I ended up with a great car at a very fair price.
For what its worth, I bought the car 100% based upon Rob's inspection. I hadn't even seen it "in the flesh" before I picked it up. If that's not a strong recommendation, then I don't know what is!
Neil
(PS I'm in no way connected with Rob other than as a very satisfied customer.)
PPS - Remember that they are not cheap to maintain and you have to treat them with more mechanical sympathy than you would, say, a BMW. But don't let that put you off 'cos they have a road presence unmatched by anything short of maybe a Lambo.

Ok thanks fot that,i will give him a ring.Better to pay bit extra for a professional opinion than regret it after!Im well aware of the running costs but think it would be worth it for what you get in return. After reading through the forums i think im going to be tempted to take out the tvr gold warranty also,i understand the car gets inspected 1st at a cost before your allowed the cover, can this inspection be done before you purchase the car like any other inspection?Just thinking could kill two birds with one stone.Ive seen some private sales with upto 12months warranty included so would it be safe to assume these would be a safe bet?

Sound advice on the engine. I have a summer 2004. I love it! www.TVRTAMORA.COM if you want to see a good selection of colours. I think they are enjoying a revival and will continue to do so as summer approaches!

Among many other TVRs we have had 2 Tamoras & one T350. I do prefer the Tamora I found the T350 a bit claustrophobic but otherwise a great car. I would always recommend air con , the reason I sold the first Tam was only the lack of air con, even with the roof down it gets really hot in summer.
The handling of both is excellent but as previously quoted , advice from someone who knows the cars well would be recommended. Try to get a warranty, wear & tear preferably this will give you peace of mind.
Have you seen the Chatsworth gathering thread - if you can make it I am sure it will be a great place to get info , advice & take a look at our cars.

Good idea. Or if you can get along to one of the Starkholmes / Oakerthorpe meets (every two weeks on a Tuesday - details in the Midland forum) I'll happily show you around the Tam.
