I'm not up on the history of TVR's but was wondering if anybody could shed any light on why they named the model T350(c/t), whereas most other models have a 'name'?

Good question and I don't really know the answer other than the T350C/T aren't actually new models but really Tamoras with different bodies.

The "T" stands for Tamora so the cars are actually called Tamora 350 Coupe/Targa which is abbreviated to T350C/T.

My thoughts were the T stands for T series as in Tamora & Tuscan and the 350 is BHP C for Coupe and T for targa

At launch TVR said that the T is for Tamora so as to fit in the range below the Tuscan, although it is the same chassis, 350 bhp and the t/c suffix should be lower-case.

So what about the T400R and T440R?

IIRC R for racing and upper case so that you know that the T here is for Tuscan based; gets messy doesn't it? Then there's the Typhon/Typhoon whatever whose main feature was a carbonfibre monocoque but never materialised although the dark green 2+2 spaceframe based car that someone ended up with is IMHO one of the most beautiful cars ever.

Hmmm, strange choice considering the T350 looks nothing like a Coupe/Targa version of the Tamora.
Obviously there are Tamora lovers out there, but I notice several people state their wish that the Tamora looked like the T350!!!

If it did, I would definitely want one - a drop head (dead) gorgeous T350.....mmmmmmmmmmmm.....yummy cloud9

Put that on the new model list for the new owners will you please..... and form an orderly queue - behind ME!

I asked at the time and was told that it simply was because they couldnt think of another decent mythological name for it at the time so went for the numbers.

TVR "Tiddles".
TVR "Treeshrew".

See, it's easy... plenty of ferocious beasts and they don't even have to by mythological.
(And yes, I could have gone with "Titi", but that would just have been childish: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Black_Ti)

Or, if you want to go Greco-Roman: Titan, Themis, Theseus, Tethys, and so on.

I think they should break with tradition and go with a more caring, sharing, 21st-century vego-theme, though: TVR Turnip, TVR Shallot, etc...

just imagine this with a T350 front on it! (although IMO its pretty decent looking with the Saggy features and T350 bonnet!)

Here we go again, another "how to make the Tamora better looking" thread!
Let's get back to the topic about the T350's name...

towards the end of PW's rein it was planned to for the line up to have 2 'series' - the T350 series and the Tuscan series. With each one comprising a convertible, coupe (& targa) and racer.

for the T350 series this would have been Tamora, T350C/T and Sagaris.
for the Tuscan series this would have been the Tuscan Vert, Tuscan and Typhon.

unfortunately it never quite got that far...

Bang on the nail! thumbup

But it still doesn't explain why the 350 was the only one using numbers apart from the fact that a suitable Mythological name could be summoned up. That was BS's explanation at the time of the T350 launch.

At this time there was also the potential track slag (then termed wide bodied T350) in development. This gained gills, forgot it was supposed to be a racer and morphed into the roadgoing Sagaris.

I think that evolved to T400/440R instead of the Typhon which is a different car having a monocoque.

That was what Ben told me at the Motor Show where it was launched, they simply decided to go back to numbers like the Wedge cars. No great mystery, they just wanted a change. Anyway... that Tamora with the T350 nose looks great! In fact I know I would have ordered one of those at the show if TVR had re-styled the Tamora in line with the T350c!!! I was in the process of replacing my wife's car at the time and she loved (loves) the T350 but in her words, "the roof don't come off!" So says PW "Buy the Tamora". "It's ugly," says my wife, "if, however you put a T350 nose on it we'll buy one now!" PW then lit another fag and muttered something in his dogmatic Yorkshire way about it not being possible... and we ordered an Alfa Spider 3.0 V6. And people wonder why TVR lost business? Ho hum...
