Upgrade: T350T Roof Panel Clips
Discussion
As promised, here are a couple of photos of the custom clips I've had made up for my roof panel. It now has:
- Two chromed prongs on the inside edge
- A clip on the outside edge
- A clip on the rear edge
- This new clip on the front edge
The roof's not going anywhere.
Basically, it's just a clasp that runs parallel to the panel itself, clipping under the rubber seals on the roof where the panel itself goes over the seals and bodywork. It's a bit more of a fiddle to fit the roof now as you've got to slide this in at the same time as the metal "prongs", but it sure does the trick. Note that I've also wrapped the prongs in insulation tape to provide a bit more padding.
What I'd love to do is replace the standard screws that are holding the clips in place with some of a different design:
- Standard self-tapping screw at the end, with about 1/2" of thread
- Fixed washer/butt on this that the clips can "rest" on
- Wing nuts to tighten the clips on with
I.e. the screws would be permanently fastened to the panels, but the clips would be detachable. If anybody knows of any such screw, please drop me a line!
Next on the list are:
1. Get the roof panels trimmed in some foam-backed dark grey lamonta to reduce sound reflections in the car. I've found a source for this in any number of colours, so I may well be able to supply the stuff as needed for anybody who's interested. I'll hopefully be getting it delivered and fitted over the next couple of weeks - will post up details when it's finished.
2. Find some d-profile rubber/foam strip (10-12mm wide, 4-5mm deep) to re-seal the panels around the top. I managed to get some decent P-profile stuff from B&Q to test this out with, and got the roof silent up to 130mph. Only problem was that they only did the stuff in white or brown. Needs to be black (or very dark grey). Anybody got any bright ideas on this? I'm meaning something like the following, only slightly narrower and shallower: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Mutli-Purpose-S (Have just dropped that chap a mail to see if he's got any other sizes)

looks neat enough, will try something like this soon and let you know how i get on.
a strip of foam stuck to the underside of the panel which would press down on the roof aswell as that front edge plate should be enough to clamp it down and stop the noise.
god knows why TVR didnt put a clip of some sort on the front edge aswell????

*shrugs*
I've already got a strip of rubber on the underside of the panel - there's just not enough for it to rest on around the top of the roof itself. Quick strip of rubber and a daub of vaseline should do the trick.

Ah, you've got the older style panels. Looks like this helps you. I have the newer ones which fit pretty well and already have the latches front/rear to stop it coming off (in theory). I'm just trying to make them even quieter.
I bought some thicker panel foam from here: www.tapes-direct.co.uk/
