After removing the inspection bonnet how do you get the main bonnet off.

I opened the top end by turning the star keys but then was unsure how the rest of the bonnet came away and i didnt want to break anything

You can see the front anchor points just inside where you remove the inspection hood. I believe they are just slide in's, nothing to undo once you've released at the back edge.

I had to undo the front one and reconstruct it around the lug when the garage missed the hole once. This meant the hood was not locked down at the front, but there was no release mechanism from what I remember.

Id looked at it and assumed that the front anchor points were just slide ins. I tried pulling but no apparent movement and as i can be very heavy handed i just left well alone.
Maybe you need 2 people pulling evenly on both sides?

Certainly would suggest two people. I think you lift back edge slightly and then move back toward the screen, but you'd want someone either side of the car. Stressful or what ?

To take the main bonnet off, you have to unlock/90deg turn the stainless fixings on both sides of the bonnet by the windscreen. I then put a cloth under both fixings so the bonnet doesn't scratch. Then at the front under the bonnet, there are two fixing points on on either side. You have to slide the outer case in towards the front of the car, and the side your working on will lift up, and the ball fixing lift out. do this to both sides and the bonnet is free to lift out. You need to lift it up by the windscreen and then pull back gently, but be careful that the front bit doesn't drop onto the engine. Its better if two people do this operation, but once you've learnt how to do it, it gets easy enough to do on your own. Hope this makes sence.
