Sorry to hear this!
I also have an autoprotect(TVR) policy with wear and tear and it clearly states that the engine is covered, this was the main reason i took the warranty.
I don't think i would happily accept their answer if that's what they've told you!!
What excuse/reason did they give?

I'd be keen to find out what the autoprotect party line is on this aswell. It's the main reason I went for the car that i did cause it had several months wear and tear warranty remaining!
Cheers,
Rich.

Which autoprotect warranty. I just spoke to my TVR garage and they said a £800 autoprotect warranty would cover a full engine build (no limit). This is within reason, if you have done more then 50k i would imagine your getting into a grey area.

If you take a look at this thread there is some info from Maxx-waxx about the autoprotect warranties.

maxx-waxx in another thread said:
Warranty through approved selling tvr dealer cost £800 ish dont think theres a claim limit
Warranty through approved selling tvr with wear and tear option dealer cost £1300 ish dont think theres a claim limit
Warranty through non approved dealer £500 ish with 1k claim limit Premier Plus
Warranty through non approved dealer £700 ish with 2k claim limit Premier Plus

Warrranty coverage appears to depend on who you bought from.

Would have thought they would pay part of the costs and not just plain refuse then though ?

If it's the wear and tear warranty, there are only a few things they can back out based on:
- Car not having been serviced, etc.
- Items that are specifically excluded in the warranty
- Car no longer meets the requirements - too many miles/too old/etc.

Get them to put in writing which clause in the contract you signed with them they think excludes them from paying out. Then take it from there.

Ditto that. I have claimed twice on mine without issue for steering rack work, and Autoprotect actually phoned me up beforehand to speak about the car, its use etc to validate the work was needed and genuine. I paid the full £1,300 for the complete warranty under the strict understanding that it was a bumper-to-bumper warranty so await developments on this with interest.

Reliable source told me they were not paying out on clutches. Will have to wait and see, but i would say everyone has to read the small print, very, very, carefully, and check for get out clauses.

Well they paid out for mine about 6 weeks ago.

Some of this seems to depend which dealer you use. After inspection, a dealer to me said my rear upper bushes would not be covered, they'd tried with other cars before and not suceeded. The dealer I bought from said it wouldn't be a problem. I saved £250+

Dealer did the gearbox rear seal and put another oil sender on at the same time as a full clutch with a clever-trevor modified slave/release thingumajig.

Valves on number six, that was what went on mine, it took a top end rebuild to fix, at the time P Giddings (I think that was his name and really appeared to know his stuff) was at the factory and he menioned there were new parts (e.g valves) on the top end, that were not in my 2004 engine. If you can I guess you would be best with the TVR Power option for a rebuild, although if it is only top end I wonder if they would offer the same level of 2 year cover, they may only offer that on a complete rebuild.

Good luck either way, not a nice situation I know

Well if you read my reply earlier on this thread you might guess which dealer I had problems getting warranty stuff from that another had no problems claiming for. Post the reasons for refusal here and see what the PH collective say. You could also call the warranty company directly.

In my opinion you should get a second opinion before spending this much money. Yes this does mean getting the car towed, but that is cheaper than £5k.

yep. had my car for 4 months and had it serviced twice in that time as im really fussy with oil and and set up and that, so when i felt a power loss and missfire i took it to dulfords who did what ever they did and told me yes there is leakage from the back three, past valves and exhast so as i spent all this dosh on autoprotects ware and tare warrenty i was there thinking ill just claim and get it sorted. so when they spoke to autoprotect they said it had to go back to a main dealer ie henley hertige, so they collected my car and have been told to take out the engine and sent there man over to look. they have now said that its not covered and they will not pay for anything inc collecting costs and taking the engine out. so ive been without my car for 6 weeks and im pissed off as i have a 6-£700 bill to pay and when i phoned autoprotected to ask what the f@*ks going on they told me that my car had been run dry of oil even though i had ai fully serviced 150miles before powerloss and back fire. so be warned when these dealers so it covers everything cos it doesnt.... what a pain in the arse. cos now i have a 8k rebuild to pay for after bying the car for 27k 4 months before and spent 3.5k having it sorted out.

It's up to the dealer to firmly back you up and provide their expert opinion to Autoprotect that the engine failed due to mechanical failure of engine components.

For that diagnosis you are covered under the t&c of their mbi policy.

150 miles and dry of oil? I would 1. Sue the person who serviced it, 2. Sue the warranty company for breach of contract, 3. Sue dealer for selling car with warranty for which they new the responsibilities of when sevicing and the limitations of when selling.
Not a go at anyone in particular- just what I would do in your shoes.
Presuming you have performed the necessary oil checks.

It is this kind of shit that makes the TVR forums so busy and their owners so dejected. Stop putting up with this piss poor level of customer service and that goes for all TVR owners, and for legal reason is not aimed at any dealer/service agent in particular.
I do feel for you I would be extremely pissed off too!

Hi

Are we getting the full story here?

If you have had it fully serviced twice in a four month period there must have been some unusual reason as this is not normal behaviour - why did you feel the need to have it fully serviced twice in four months? - I'm assuming you hadn't done 24000 miles in four months.

As Bobd suggests get legal advice.

As I understand it these engines can suffer from oil starvation hence the absolute necessity to get the oil circulating at full heat before giving it any welly. I don't know the mileage of the car but perhaps what the warranty guy saw was standard wear and tear on an engine that has been thrashed from cold prior to your ownership, it seems even when you do the right thing you get treated like a mug.....

Get some legal advice especially if you had a service 150miles before the problems, I don't think any car should loose all that oil in 150 miles, unless it wasn't there in the first place

I suspect the warranty company has had a few TVR claims and are now pushing back..

good luck mate

I think I replied regarding this particular incident on another thread a week or two ago. My experience with some dealers was that I was told certain work was not possible under warranty (£300 worth in my case). I tried another dealer and got the response "not a problem, we've had no problems with this kind of thing". Work was done without a delay or any glitch.

I suggested another dealer is tried. The cost of carting the car/engine to TVR Power (for example) is less than an engine rebuild and if the second opinion is negative then its only a few hundred quid.

Also remember, some dealers offers their own engine building services they would prefer to use. Whereas the warranty company might want the engine sending back to TVR Power.

I'll say no more. Contact me direct if you want to discuss.

Another note: If the engine was run that low on oil then the oil warning light should have come on.
