Both my fans are coming on together when the water temperature hits 98degC. I had the radiator changed last year and before this change, the one fan used to come on at 95degC - does anyone know how to change the point at which the fans come on i.e. get the first one to kick in at 95degC??

Thanks in advancethumbup

I think the fans are set by the ecu, why dont you do what I done and splice into the system so as you can switch the fans on manually as and when you choose. I never have a heating problem as i flick the switch whenever a traffic jam is ahead or on a very hot day. If you turn them on at around 85 to 90 it never gets hot. I think the TVR 95 and 98 are way to high as its already to hot.

Is there a tried and tested wiring proceedure for the override switch. It sounds a good idea to me. Is the ECU affected/confused?

i had this happen to my car - replaced with ecu temp switch from clever trevor and first fan now comes on at 90, not seen the second one come on for weeks, whereas the old switch turned tha fans on at 94 then 96 and it was too hot to cool it properly,

they seem to come on later and later the older the switch gets, in 12,000 miles iv gone through three, this one from clever trevor seems to have lasted the longest and always holds the temp steady at 90.c

iv also bought a spare @ £15 incase things get hot in le'man.

Thanx Graham. I'm having the same problem with my car, with my fans both cutting in too late and am slightly concerned as I'm off to Europe in 3 weeks.

Are they easy to fit?

What day are you arriving at le mans? (Can't wait!!!)

Sorry, I am being dim, are we saying we can now fit an override switch for the fans - is it easy ? I had one on my Chimaera and it was a total godsend, real peace of mind. I get so so stressed sitting in trafic preying the fans cut in - an override switch will lower both the temp and my blood pressure. I LOVE the car (Tamora) but sitting in traffic fills me with fear.

You can send ECU to Jools @ trackcar he will then program it to come on however you like (see cooling chip upgrade on his webpage)- but I think he recommends that they come up earlier and switch more often...

Hey guys
Who has Trackcar's contact details please? I like the idea of having the ecu reprogrammed.
Cheers

Just fitted a new fan switch - both fans now kicking in at 90degC. Hopefully the last time I will see high 90's/low 100's on my temperature readout!!!

The fan switch fitted was supplied by Racing Green - its from a different source to the original. They are claiming this alternate source is more relaible. Time will tell I guess.

Out of curiosity, where have you fitted the switch?

I didn't have a manual override fitted like some people have suggested (although I think it is probably a good idea). I just had a new ecu temp switch fitted. Overtime, the original design kicks the fans in later and later - before I had the new one fitted, fans kicked in at about 100 deg C but now kick in at 90.

Racing Green tell me the new one should be more reliable than the original TVR design.

Interesting comment. I've sat in traffic jams for hours (eg London Thunder, but also Monaco on a very hot day!) and never had a problem. Mind you, in the last year or so I had the cooling system mod installed where there is a separate reservoir clamped to the side of the engine bay rather than filling the system via the main tank in the middle. This dropped the temperature by over 5 degrees, but my first fan still cuts in around 90deg.
