Which tyres for my Tam?
Discussion
I've got 18" spiders on my Tam and have the Toyo's all around. The front 2 tyres are gone on the inside so will need replacing and looking at the tracking/camber etc.
Are there any other tyres out there that you guys and girls can recomend? Or should I just stick with what I've got and replace the front 2 with more Toyo's? My favorite tyres that I had on the 944 turbo was the Bridgstone SO2's but I don't think you can get them for mine. I'm doing 4000 miles around europe in 4 weeks and want the tyres to be just right for the twisties!
Also Ive seen some of the cars have got 255/35 on the rear instead of 235/40. Has anyone got this on their car and dose it make much difference?
Any help/advise would be much apriciated

I had Toyos and have switched to Goodyear Eagle F1's - can't say I've noticed any difference in dry weather grip, but think I read somewhere the Goodyears are supposed to be better in the wet?
They are Alex, quite remarkable in the wet
Just fitted Eagle F1s to the Tamora. Got them from Kwik Fit for £104.00 per corner inc vat, fitting and balancing (16" rims). They are very good in the wet and dry. I've only just changed the rears on The Tuscan which had 17,000 miles and one track day on them. (Ok OK Ok. I know, I'm probably not driving it right
I`ve got 255/35x18s on the rear of the Tamora, they have been on for nearly 5k miles now, no problems what so ever, lowers the car very slightly 5mm, lowers the gearing slightly, should be slightly quicker in the gears as a result? and makes the speedo more accurate according to my Road Angel, dry road grip is also improved slightly due to more rubber on the road, and no rubbing on the arches.

Thanx for this info. It is good to hear that there no scrubbing on the arches as this was a concern. Which tyres have you got? (Toyos or Goodyear) Still not sure weather it is worth taking perfectly good Toyos off of the rear to replace with the goodyear and extra width?

Toyos, i was lucky enough to find the official TVR stamped tyres on E-Bay for £75 each
As for your second query, i would leave the Toyos on untill they need replacing,Unless you drive like a maniac on the road you won`t notice a huge difference IMO.

Sorry to go on, but last problem I promise!
Pro Tyres (the place I normaly get tyres from), are suggesting that I put Goodyears at the front and leave the Toyos at the back until they need replacing. I thought this might unbalance things, but they said that they are both directional and have similar tred patterns so wouldn't be a problem. Any thoughts?

Suspect if there made by different companies they are different compounds and may affect handling???

I switched to F1 Eagles recently too (18's).
Much better than Toyo T1-S in the wet, not sure how they compare to T1-R's though.
Just out of interest John (DaftLad) what are the R888's like in the wet?
I know yours stick like a sticky substance to a teenagers blanket in the dry....

Was at Cadwell yesterday three morning sessions were damp, wet and then standing water. An ideal oppurtunity to try the tyres. Damp ok, wet good, standing water not bad either. Overall I would suggest they were a match for F1s which surprised me.
It was dry in the afternoon but a cold track - car was sliding around a litle but I was pushing quite hard. If the rubber consumption is not horrendous, I will buy another set.
