Coolant level question ... please help!
Discussion
Doing my first long(ish) journey in the T350 tomorrow and been doing my maintenance checks...
... but my coolant system is different to the manual (expansion tank mod?) ... !?!? ...
As such, i'm not sure how full the white tank should be? At present it's got about 2cm in the bottom but not sure if this is enough??
If anyone can offer any advice it'd be greatly appreciated... not had any overheating problems (since the head gasket was replaced!) but as I say i've not really done any long journeys and not had the car long.
Also, I know you should check the oil after it's been run up to temperature but how 'hot' should it be, after a few miles the dip-stick is red hot
Thanks in advance.

Mines had the expansion tank mod but it doesn’t look like that? I have a second tank about half the size of the main one bolted to the diver’s side that I fill to about 1/3 full.
Check the oil when it up to normal operating temperature (75-80c), a nice pair of garden gloves will stop your hands melting.

I had the expansion tank mod done at the same time as having a new radiator fitted.
I was told to keep the level just below the bottom of the neck - i can see the fluid.
Should also point out that my expansion tank is fitted in a similar position to what Steve11 describes.

About an inch or so the reason for that mod was it was one of the first 14 T350s that had vertical rads (before they changed to slanting position)it could not cope with that hot summer in 06 ie 32d it would boil over.
So the small alloy one was removed and replaced with the cerb one with extra expansion.all the work was done at the factory.Sorry to hear about the head gasket.
