I noticed after taking the Tamora out for a short run this morning that there was coolant all over the garage floor.
Scensoredt because I had the coolant leeks sorted out last week.
On examining where the coolant was leeking I noticed that it was coming out of the filler cap just after switching the engine off.
It appears that my coolant filling cap does not have a tight fit anymore. Can I get another one or is there a good substitute.

yes MK1/MK2 Golf, I think, and any tiv dealer should have them for around a tenner. NB there are better/poorer quality replaceents out there. Check ebay, too.

Agree, even when the cap is screwed on tight it is designed to let coolant/steam out if overheating or as said to much coolant.

Good point. In the manual it say's when the engine is cold, there should be approx 10mm of fluid visible within the filler neck, which is what I do. I could of slightly overfilled it, but I fill up to the base of the filler neck.

I've always followed the coolant level rules, but got through three of the caps so far - apparently it's the seal that fails. Typical VW reliability, if you ask me...

thumbup since I doo the spoon thingy never had trouble and need to fill water a lot less (fill it over the intake hose like described)- the engine seems to keep her "level" of comfort--- as said befor cap is designed to release pressure if overfull
Maybe - as you sorted your leaks out- the water pops out its natural relief when too much in there..

Seems the manual is misleading. I panicked when my tam spat out after turning engine off. Friendly dealer suggests 10mm down from top of return hose to allow for expansion. I let the fan stop before turning off now. Pity it doesnt have an overrun.

I had a similar thing after getting my T350 with the Mk2 coolant tank (same as Sagaris) back from a service. I looked in the expansion tank to see it was filled higher than I have been told is necessary.

When I've had similar problems before (with water just leaking out of the cap rather than pouring out under pressure) I've been told that it is most likely the coolant trying to find the correct level and it just means it was probably overfilled.

One of those things I guess. I hope this is what caused my issue as I am preparing my car for Le Mans at the moment and I don't want another episode of cooling problems which have plaugued my life since owning my car Since then I've had a new engine, new radiator and the mk2 cooling tank fitted so touch wood my car is ok now!

Thanks Lads.

It does seem that the manual is misleading.

The two coolant leeks I had fixed must of been overshadowing the fact that I was over filling.

I have'nt filled the coolant up since the new forest run on sunday, and drove the Tam into work this morning.
No coolant around the filler cap anymore. Must of found its level and settled down.

I'll do the finger test from now on. I'll dip me finger in and if there is coolant on the finger tip then that is enough.
