TVR Warranty Problems
Discussion
I purchased my car almost 2 months ago. Before purchasing I made sure that the car had a full year of Auto Protect Gold + Wear and Tear warranty remaining. The previous owner of my car ensured me that the change of ownership would only carry a £50 administration fee from Auto Protect. He double checked this by calling the dealership from which he purchased the vehicle, who then called their rep at Auto Protect. This confirmed that the only necessary step was the admin fee.
After purchasing my T350, I sent a letter along with my £50 cheque requesting transfer of the warranty to my name. A week later I received a letter informing me that I must get a 101 point check carried out prior to transfer of ownership! Needless to say I was a little shocked so I called the previous owner who told me to contact the dealership. The manager at the dealership was as shocked as me as he remembered talking to the rep at Auto Protect and confirmed that he was told no check was required. However it seems Auto Protect will not take responsibility for this matter and I am left with a 101 point check and bills for any problems that may be found!
As you can imagine I am pretty annoyed as if I'd have known this information before I purchased the car, I would have made sure the 101 point check was carried out before transfer of ownership.
Can anyone offer some advice before I book the car in and hope for the best?

I am very sceptical about warranty companies and have had trouble with this company before over a policy I had on a 911. Your situation does not suprise me as some warranty firms look to squirm out of their responsibilities at any opportunity. I have bought a used 911 before with an Autoprotect warranty and not had to have any checks carried out. It was just a case of the admin fee (which is money for old rope) to change names. Fight your corner on this one!!!

That is completely wrong and APA tried the exact same tactic on with me. It's a change in the name on a piece of paper and nothing to do with the car for f**k sake!
I recently sold my Tamora and went through a long battle with Auto Protect as the terms and conditions in the policy state a £25 admin fee is payable to transfer the title of the warranty (not £50, as you mention) and there is no mention anywhere that any sort of check needs to be done. I was told "It's different with TVR". Oh really and is that because you are a load of scamming cheating sh**s. Still fuming (you may have noticed).
I spoke to a number of monkeys in the APA call centre who just repeated the same message over and over again but when I asked them to refer to the terms of the contract that state a 101 check is required they could not do so. It did point out to them that all is required is a £25 admin fee, which they accepted but wouldn't accept!!!
I then got in touch with Trading standards who were very useful and informed me that it was simple contract law and that they can not change the terms of the warranty that they and I have entered into. I wrote to APA to explain what TS had said and I promptly got a nice apologetic letter back from APA saying they will transfer on receipt of the £25 admin fee, result (and common sense provailed for once).
I've still got a copy of my letter to them and will be happy to send this on to you if you like. Get in touch with me directly, but I suspect you will need te help of the guy who sold you the car as it is his responsibility to send the letter to APA and request the transfer.
Regards
Chris
