Expansion cap went ... steam
Discussion
Cor blimey, flippin' eck, now Mrs Targarama really loves the TVR and can't wait to nip over to Germany in it.
Seems my dealer overtightened the coolant expansion cap and cracked it inside. Cue me, pulling off the M40 onto the A34 this moring after a gentle stroll up the motorway (honest!). 2 minutes waiting at lights and I got a nice steam bath, the coolant was spouting out the cap. Drove onto A34 and things calmed down, thought it might have been overfilled. 5 mins later, A44 to Woodstock - traffic queue - steamtastic. Turn left, pull into petrol station in some village on way to Witney, wait for AA. I couldn't get the cap undone (once cooled).
AA man got cap off - broken inside. Luckily I had a spare cap in the boot. Topped up and bled the system and all is fine. I think it needs a bit more bleeding as temp is 89/90 mostly, then does a 89/90/97/87/94/89/90 in about 2 seconds (just did this via the two screws/valves on each side of the radiator - where else should I bleed?
So after a 2 hour delay we continued on our way and had a nice afternoon driving around the Cotswolds avoiding major roads (i.e. traffic).
Good on the AA, tut tut to the dealer (seems like an honest mistake to me - I'll be sure to get them to send me a nice free new cap though).
Saw some Corvettes on the M40, one yellow one with a PH sticker on the front wing. Also had a red Wedge behind me as I steamed by way along to the petrol station in some Oxfordshire village.
