took the car out for a blast and had to bring it back sharpish i'm afraid. water temp was upto 120 before the oil had heated up to 60c. Checked the water tank, topped it up and went out again, no improvement. Any ideas folks desperate to drive in the sunshine rather than spend a day in the garage. I'm hoping its the sensor.

Anymore info? I presume fans aren't cutting in? Theres a couple of recent threads on here that should help you. Nonetheless, it could be any/all/none of -

1. Fan motors not working - stick a screwdriver in and see if the blades turn freely
2. Fuse/relay check and try swapping with something else (top of drivers footwell)
3. Wiring to fans, again check condition/contacts. Try swapping male/female from fan to fan.
4. Water sensor not working - common fault, about £12 for the part 3/4 hour to fit first time (remove airbox carefully, the sensor is toward the rear of the block, 19mm socket, refit with ptfe and/or rtv silicon, its hollow brass so don't over tighten.

Hopefully its one of these. Good luck.

I'm afraid its none of the above. The fans cut in as they should. It seems to be losing water but for the life of me i can't seem to find where the leak may be. Filled up the resevoir tank up twice now, went for a blast and by the time the oil temp reaches 70 the water temp is in the high 90's!. Also each time i stop and wait for it to cool down and check there doesn't seem to be much water left it the tank. Time for the RAC and a tow to the garage on monday morning i think. frown

Sometimes if a coolant hose is leaking it will not show until under stress IE when your driving, so don't put the black arm band on yet it could a 2 bob jubilee causing your grief.

Good Luck.

I don't think running water temp in high 90's is a problem per se. Obviously water loss is. As above, work through all hoses and keep plenty of H2O with you.

Just had this in the Tamora, and Automedon found thermostat was knackered. Caused water to boil over and vent out of tank.

If its either of these, Raja, its a straightforward and cheap repair.
