TVR Warranty and Servicing
Discussion
Hi All,
Just wondered what opinions were on servicing now that TVR's Warranty has all but disappeared?
My T350 (05 plate) is currently looked after by Henley - who's services I am happy with. However, as with all TVR dealers, they are not exactly the cheapest! David Batty used to look after my Chimaera - and he pointed out to me when I bought my T350 that he could continue to service the new car as he had all the right computer software and would use all the correct TVR parts. From a cost saving point of view he is likely to be considerably cheaper than Henley - plus he services his own Tuscan plus a few other SP6 cars.
Due to some warranty work having to be done when I first got the T350 I took it to Henley and have continued to do so since. But maybe I needn't be??
I've bought myself another warranty to cover me for 2 years - www.car2cover.co.uk for anyone who's interested. It's about as comprehensive as the original TVR one, but was only £575 for 2 years, including covering the Cats on the exhaust. I will need to check with them first, but it's unlikely that they will have an issue with me using David Batty over Henley Heritage.
I guess the only issue with going away from a TVR dealer is IF TVR do surface again, and our original warranties are honoured again, then will I invalidate mine by having services with David? (Now, I know some of your may be laughing at the idea of TVR coming back from the dead, and even more so at the thought of them honouring the warranties again - but I thought I'd ask the question.)
So, over to you for opinions and thoughts...
Cheers,
Ropey

I've heard that TVR big-wigs met last week and are planning to go forward with the company as well as honouring all 3 yr warranties! I could well be wrong but it would be interesting to hear if this has any substance. I agree that going to a knowledgable specialist is very tempting to save a few bob but it could have a slight negative effect on resale as people love to see FTVRSH on a car! Personally, I plan to support my local TVR dealer with service work even though I know it can be done a bit cheaper elsewhere.
Is it not the case with all manufacturers warranties that you are not obliged to get the manufacturer to carry out the service work to uphold the warranty? What MUST happen is that the service is carried out to the manufacturers specifications, using only quality parts graded as either official TVR parts or better?
I asked the question before with my Subaru and thats what they told me. Still went for the FSSH though as I think it does "add" to the car in the event of resale.
You'd need to check though as I cannot be sure - its been a while and I'm sure there is something in the fine print somewhere!

I have just got my T350C back from Henley (and they have looked after it from new). Service has always been good, and Richard is always knowledgeable and patient (as I can be fussy).
If you are happy with the service and the fact that the Tuscan/T350 etc model range require and demand expert knowledge to maintain these - then why risk the change to try and save a few pounds. I personally have seen quite a few cars now that were so called maintained - but in reality were in a very poor state, and so makes the option of changing servicing a no brainer (IMHO).
Interested in the warranty though - have they paid for any repairs ?
Thanks
Geoff

Hmmm...
I was very happy with David Batty looking after my Chimaera for the 3 years I had it, plus the 2 previous owners before that had him look after it too. As he himself owns a Tuscan I don't doubt his ability at all - plus I believe he looks after a few SP6s for customers too. But as you say, it's that dealer stamp that may be an issue in the future.
I have no issues with Henley at all - Richard is an absolute star, and has always fitted me in when I've needed it. But David is 25% cheaper on his labour rates, which is quite a significant saving.
Since I've taken out the new warranty - typically, I haven't had any work done yet. The only minor downside is that they don't quite stretch to the labour rate of Henley - but they're only about £5/hr short so it's nothing too serious to worry about, and certainly better than having nothing in place at all. I chatted with Richard at Henley about it before I took it out, and he thought that at that price with what it covered it was a no brainer.
If anyone does want to take it out, best be quick, as when mine was going through they were reviewing taking on TVRs due to the high number of claims!!

Nope, no check required. I had just had my car serviced though.
It takes 14 days to kick in, so that stops anyone trying to claim straight away. I guess if anything goes within the first month or 2 they might be a bit suspicious.
Only £100 to cover the cats for 2 years as well, which considering the part alone costs ~£350 per side - thought that was pretty good value too!
I guess the real test will be when I actually need something doing though! Fingers crossed.

Just double checked my email correspondence with them, and should a claim be required they would need proof the service schedule had been followed - they use this and the 14 day gap instead of a pre-warranty inspection.
Double check the makes they cover though, as this is what the told me back in April:
[quote]Yes we currently do cover TVRs however this would depend on when you intend
to purchase cover as the underwriters are experiencing high levels of claims
on these models and have said they will be excluding TVRs any time now.

Did make me laugh!

Hi there
I am new to the forum and interested in what is being said about the warranties. I also took a warranty with www.car2cover.co.uk for my Alfa and have made a claim. Rest at ease, the warranty and claims guys are brilliant. They were quick, helpful and had my car returned to fitness with no quibble.
I have since purchased tyre insurance and gap insurance from them also.
www.car2cover.co.uk were the cheapest on-line provider and their service is great
If you are concerned about how low their prices are (and i was too) dont be. They supply their warranties, gap and tyre insurances to main dealers like BMW, Mercedes and Audi and those guys wouldnt suffer fools or crap products.
I can only highly ecommend them !!
