I notice that there are just 9 Sagaris on sale at the moment on PH and Autotrader which is the lowest I've seen for a good 6 months (for some reason the reflex purple car that was at HHC Harrogate is now for sale at Gavin Pattison Cars of Skipton???). The summer is traditionally a time when cars like TVR's are kept by owners (if you can call this summer!) but never-the-less, this shows a potentially strong position for the Sagaris regarding value retention. Now that I have mine wink I suggest a co-operative type cartel amongst all Sagaris owners that we set minimum prices and dictate the market biggrin After all, there are less than 150 of these cars and the signs of more are not looking good. Seriously though, the lack of cars on sale must reflect how much owners are enjoying them. I certainly am!

On the other hand it could be that there are so few for sale because of how low a value the market currently puts on them - dealers offering rock bottom trade-in allowances and private buyers wanting them for sub-30K prices. Current owners that want to sell may be resisting taking a low price for a while but once they adjust to the idea the level of Sagaris prices will fall to the market value.

It's a nice idea for current owners to 'dictate' the value BUT in reality it will only take a few 'desperate to sell' owners to blow that strategy out of the water UNLESS enough of the well-off current owners form a co-operative and buy up any that come on the market, hence controlling the supply and demand.

It's a tall order and the participants will need deep pockets and a strong will.

Good luck with this mission.

I think the post was an observation of how few Sagari were for sale, therefore suggesting residuals may hold up.

Fairly sure ther last part was tongue in cheek...

Unfortunately the low number currently advertised does NOT suggest that residuals may hold up - it suggests the opposite as the market is currently entering a stagnant phase. A stagnant market in the middle of the summer is a very bad omen for future values.

The dice are firmly stacked against the later TVRs such as Sagaris and Tuscan 2 for several reasons.

Since the collapse of TVR:-

There are no opportunities for owners of late TVRs to trade up through the TVR dealer network to newer TVR models.

The TVR dealer network has been devastated and demoralised - those that remain have little or no vested interest in keeping residuals high by offering generous trade in or outright purchase deals.

The warranties are not being honoured.

The reputation of the Speed Six engine, fairly or unfairly, is putting off buyers.

There is a lack of confidence even among longtime TVR supporters.

It is only natural for current owners to try to talk the market up. As a TVR fan I hate to see the situation that owners of these fine cars are in but we have to be realistic.

Maybe in ten years time the marque will be rediscovered and prices for Sagaris and Tuscan 2s will boom, maybe not.

The low number currently advertised suggests there are very few for sale nothing else. Supply and demand is what keeps prices heathly - there is despite your suggestion, a demand for the Sagaris.

Do you mind me asking why you have such a jaundicied view of somthing that is almost niche within the current TVR market?

There not a lot of info that may help on your Profile, but your previous posts suggest you have TVR experience beyond lurking, and I note you are happy to provide advice on what the best purchase Chim vs Griff based again on the market??

Come on, dont keep us in the dark. wink

Don't think prices are dropping. I paid £43k for my car 6 months agofrom a dealer. Cars with same mileage, conndition and age are going for a couple of £K higher at present. Good cars are keeping their value! they are in demand.

Regardless of issues such as factory closure, validity of warranties, etc. The Sagaris offers something that no other car does for £40k. It has performance to beat cars twice the price, great looks and a degree of practicallity (compared to say an Exige or Noble) as you can fit enough luggage for two to head off touring. The car received excellent reviews from the most highly regarded motoring press, namely Autocar and Jeremy Clarkson wink and just hits the spot for me. I have owned and enjoyed 911's but wanted something more focused (and quicker). A GT3 was out of budget and an Exige was too limited in space. If a car fulfills a purpose then there should always be a demand. Market prices are ultimately determined by demand and supply as pointed out and I reckon there must be 150 people in this country at any one time looking for what I found in the Sagaris.

I can't agree more, i have been stopped many time's by fellow passers who have offered high prices! I have just replied Sorry mate - The Beast is just not for sale... it is an awesome car and like the previous posters have said...only a few were made in the UK! Any other's that are made will be made abroad if this ever happen's! To all the Sag owners out there...you have all got a car that will be admired forever.

It always makes me laugh when people try to scaremonger over performance car depreciation, you see it all the time on the porsche forum, I for one have purchased my sagaris to keep for a very long time and although I dont want to see sagari up for sale below market value, (especially as I have mine now) Iam not going to let depreciation worries spoil my enjoyment one jot, im too busy driving and smiling in the knowledge that i own possibly the performance bargain of the decade, its also no coincidence that they are getting snapped up pretty quickly at the moment.

TBH ive been watchin sag sales since i bought mine back in march and obviously before that time too, and it seems a number of people have been buying during this period.
some cars were for sale for a while thats true but when you look into it there always seem to be a good reason, incomplete service schedule, poor overall condition etc but the good 2nd hand ones have definitely sold.
Since ive had mine ive had 3 people seriously enquire as to whether i want to sell, and i had one guy offer me 3k more than i paid for it.

Well just so its clear,
Not for Sale : my sagaris
Not open to sensible offers

i love the car so much, and the tie should be even stronger when i get the gearbox and diff upgraded. biggrin

Well I will be this weekend biggrin. After almost a year of waiting and looking at Noble, Lotus (had an Exige, Elise and 340R before), Porsche etc, I have bought a Chameleon Blue Sagaris from Racing Green and I am so excited bounce.

There seems to be a bit of a rush on Sagaris at the moment and Dream Machines have sold all of theirs I think and Racing Green have sold 3 recently but have just taken a beautiful Cascade Violet one in so if you are looking be quick! I will put a picture on the Sagaris Register shortly. Only 4 more sleeps to go cool !!
I said it back it April - the decent cars do not hang around for long.....

Listen guys please don't misunderstand me - I'm just trying to inject a little common sense and reality into this topic.

I applaud all those Sagaris/Tuscan/Tamora/T350 owners who are determined to keep their cars - that is exactly the right thing to do - enjoy them for what they are and don't worry about depreciation, after all a loss isn't a loss until you sell.

But let's not be unrealistic - if you want to know the desirability of your TVR and it's true value try the ACID TEST - go to the nearest dealer and ask them how much they would give you for it as a straight purchase - then add 3K or 4K to get the private sale value.

There seem to be a lot of Sagaris sitting longterm in dealers' showrooms - not a good sign. TVRs aren't immune from depreciation so anything around 60% of the 2005/06 price after two years is very good.

But I don't think you can put a price on the thrill and enjoyment of driving these great machines - so just enjoy.

my dealer "RG" offered to buy mine (for a very good price) when it was in for the 12K service as he had a buyer waiting (he had seen my car in the workshop and made an offer)

Asking a dealer for a price to buy a car off you is not an indication of true market value. Generally speaking that will result in a good old eye poking, whether with TVR, Porsche or almost any other marque.

No really - some good dealers such as Tony at Hexham HC and others would give you a fair deal IMO.
