Despite the known phenomenon of the engine cover moving around at speed, has anyone devised a successful method of making it more secure?

Not bovverred.

Apart from a few extra spacers on the pins, no.

It was mentioned on this forum to use neoprene. I cut some rectangular washers out of a thick old wet suit to go on the back lugs (nearest windscreen) and the panel fits much more snuggly and subsequently rattles less at speed.

I used adhesive backed neoprene at the contact points to eliminate the rattles; also on the main bonnet contact point at the bulkhead.
Also changed the spacers/tightened the nuts and bolts on the service bonnet.
Now rattle freesmile at terminal leptons

Peter
I found with ours that pulling at the 'centre bar' between the two flaps would bow the cover enough to pop out.
To cure i removed the top pins disguarded both washers and replaced the pins with 'locktite'on the threads. The pins now stick through an extra 4mm or so.
You can't yank it out now!
