how to sell a car
Discussion
Time has come to move on. Will be putting up my beloved car up for sale next week. Never sold anything privately before in my life. Could do with some tips on:
- advert.
- price
- how to spot a tyre kicker etc
- negotiations
- test drive (do you let a stranger drive your car?)
- how to take payment
- anything else i need to know
Oh its a 55 plate t350t red rose spec with under 7k fsh in swordfish spec. Will come with 12 months tax.
Thanks

If you are keen to sell then don't overprice. Put a warranty on the car.
Find a good local industrial estate or quiet country lane to let them test drive. Your choice if you want them insured. There is a company who do daily insurance - they have been mentioned here before.
If they are keen to see 'how fast it is' themselves then don't let them drive. Any serious buyer will know and will just want to be sure the car feels OK when moving along.
Only accept bank transfer for the payment (if you find an honest buyer, they will know where you live etc. and strike up a relationship then they will be fine with this - just draw up apprpriate paperwork which you both sign).
Do not reply to any offers or requests for information from abroad unless provenance is proven.
Edited to say: Clean the interior before taking a photo - so many cars look skanky around the carpet mats due to lazy sellers. Plus, use the image quota.

I've been looking for a T350 for the past month or two so have been paying close attention to all of them advertised recently. Here are my thoughts as a buyer-
You need good quality pictures and plenty of them with the car looking its best.
If the advert is just one or two crappy photos of a dirty car then obviously he or she cant be arsed to present it properly so you wonder how badly has it been looked after.
It is clearly not a "pride and joy" car which is one of the essentials to look for when buying privately.
Give a lots of details of services(with mileages), work done on it, which dealers you have used for the work, how is it stored, how is it used and how you've looked after it etc.
Convince me (without lying) that this is the perfect TVR for me...
