Although my T350 has never had overheating problems, the airflow into the radiator is in my opinion far from ideal. I believed it could be significantly improved by fitting blades to turn the airflow through 90° and into the radiator.

To cut to the "chase" I mocked up a single blade for each intake and then made up some moulds and had a set manufactured. They do reduce the temperature and in my opinion they also look good!

I am not sure how to post the photographs on here but I have posted the photo's and data on the Blackpool branch web site of the TVR Club

Great job - they look pretty good too. I think I'd remove them during the winter when the engine gets plenty of cooling. Are you going to get them colour coded?

One comment is that I had always thought 90deg was the optimum temperature for an engine and that any cooling issues were when sitting in traffic for prolonged periods (probably related to the GRP not letting heat out of the engine bay - the fans coming on certainly fixes the temp quite quickly). Being able to manually operate the fans (i.e. override them) is probably an important aid too.

The intakes look great. I already sent Trevor Bee an email biggrin .

Do you also have pictures from below (showing the 6mm screws fixing the intake ducts)?

Thanks,

Konrad

First let me explain why a different name is answering the questions posed above. My friend Keith, alias glow worm, had recently used my computer to check something on P.H. and forgot to log out of his name afterwards.

Regarding colour coding the blades, I thought about spraying them red but decided on black gloss as it matched the headlight housings and TVR badge, it also contrasted well with the red paint of the car.

I can't show you a photo of the underside of the car with the 6 mm bolts in position as I have now fitted the rubber grommets in with loctite and oversealed them, however, I will put a picture of the finished underside on the Blackpool web to morrow night. The delay is because the car is in for a service at the moment. I also put 25mm diameter washers under the bolt heads to spread the load.

The moulds for the blades are at T.E.T.Mouldings in Poulton Le Fylde and I presume Trevor Bee would make some more. The ones I fitted were the first set made and it took a fair bit of time to profile the upper and lower edges to fit in the duct. I will be seeing Trevor this week and will take him a paper template of the finished blades to see if we can alter / improve the moulds. At the very least the templates could be used to profile the blades which would save all the filing and trial fitting I had to do.
