Sorry to hear this. Hope it gets tidied up quickly. No point in telling you to get a new mate...

Was this a hitch-hiker or someone who falls into the bracket of being a friend of yours? I know the doors don't open that far on TVR's but it must have taken some serious ham-fisted effort to do that kind of damage. I'd tell them they had a bill coming their way or failing that why not take note from the Toyota Yaris adverts on TV wink

Sorry to hear what happened mate. We will have to meet up when the car is out of the shop and catch up. Hope the price stays down and the new family addition is doing well.

Sorry to hear of your misfortune. Takes me back to my first TVR, Chim 500. Dropped my passenger off and she didn't shut the door properly. This I noticed when I applied the brakes at the end of the road - door swung open and was cracked from top to bottom along the front edge. Think that cost me a similar amount then - in 1999 !

I trust your passenger and EX friend will be sleeping with a horses head some time soon?

Surely they'll offer to pay for the repair? I get this all the time in the Elise - people expect the door to weigh loads when it doesn't, and invariably end up slamming it really hard. If they don't pay for it, certainly mention the cost next time you see them..

Just had a call from Dream Machines, the car is all done and ready to be picked up.

Total cost: £289... (hmmm can I run this through as a company expence?)

DM charge £85 an hour labour which is a 'bit' on the high side but I wanted it done properly so thats the price you pay I guess...

Truth be told it is a relative that did this which makes things worse, (I said it was a friend to hide his identity but Im so pissed off with him now!)

He knows how much its cost and has said that (wait for it).... he didn't do it.... its not his fault..... its a design fault on the car..... he's not paying.... (can you believe it!)

Its not so much the damage to the Sag that pisses me off but the sheer arrogance of totally dismissing that it was even caused by him, or that he can possibly be in the wrong about anything. Quite frankly its a joke which Ive had enough of! We havn't shared a civil word since and it has put a huge crack in our relationship (which if Im honest Im going past caring about).
Crumbs. I guess you'll have to just stomach the cost and make up with your relative. It would be silly to fall out with family over £289. He knows he's the one in the wrong, and he always will know that inside, even though he doesn't say it. Besides, he's lost out as he probably won't get a ride in your Sagaris anymore!! Given that you open and close your driver's door a lot more than the passenger one, I don't think it's a design fault..

Yeah he's definatly had his last ride in it, thats for sure!

Im just now looking forward to getting her back, my garage has looked so bare without the Sag in the corner this week. Its made me realise how boring life would be driving the BMW all the time.

Theres some lovely roads around Dream Machines so I might have to go home via the coast and some twisty B-roads to cheer myself up, then spend the afternoon test driving a diesel 335 to replace the petrol one...
Cor you're lucky.....my day car is Fiat grande Punto with 75 raging horsepower!!!

At least when you pick it up it should sound different so the visit to the dealer has a silver lining!
As a matter of interest when your oil pressure reading was playing up was it reading a low pressure once warm at idle which is what my Tam does? Maybe I should look into getting DM to fix mine after all thats where I got it from?

If your journey blat brings you to Polegate pop in for a cuppa!

Obviously getting someone else to pay for it would be cheaper but £289 doesn't sound too bad to me if labour is 85 pounds an hour. Far less than I expected an far less that the uniformed inward whistlers would have come up with.

Sounds like a fair enough amount to me to offload someone with no hint of responsibility or social conscience, what would you trust him with/to do in the future?

Thats "uninformed inward whistlers" as opposed to "uniformed inward whistlers"

I have not read the entire thread.. Just the first comment made....

I have been looking at the mechanism and to do that they must have thrown the bloody thing at the car. If some one did that to mine i would have ripped there face clean off... Now i know that comment is a little childish.. BUT as you say respect others stuff for christ sake.

Is the oil pressure sorted? I'm dropping mine up there later for them to add the new sender or whatever it is.
