Tamora storage
Discussion
Hi folks
Looking for some advice
I have owned the Tamora for about 6 months now and am absolutely loving it, perhaps a little too much though because I appear to be clocking up the miles pretty quick!!
I have a second car and am considering putting the Tam away for 4-5 months over the winter in the garage a) too try and keep the miles off it, and b) because I dont think I would be able to enjoy the car as much in the winter without putting it through a hedge.
I assume there are quite a few owners who do this year in year out and was wondering if anyone has any advice for me around how i should store the car, what should i do with the battery? do i need some sort of charger? and just any other tips you may have.
Thanks again
Mark

I also want to do this to the Sag from about November to March...
Its my first winter as a TVR owner so I cant give any firm advice although I guess the following would help...
give it a really really good wash and wax...
leave the handbrake off?
Disconnect the battery and leave it on a trickle charger.
Buy a good indoor car cover
check tyre pressures so to aviod flat spots.?
leave one window open to try and keep fresh air in the car.

i think the consensus here is to keep it on the road all year round, or engine problems become more likely. maybe try swapping your lead soled shoes until next spring?
Yes swap your Lead shoes for some lighter ones

Maybe Carbon Fibre?
Doh!, no, not a good idea thinking about it, as you'd end up with a Carbon footprint!

I agree, most people on here will say to drive it all year around as it is better for the engine to have regular use. I've had mine for a year now and can't bring myself to not drive it for any length of time. I just don't drive it during the week or meaningless drives to the shops etc and save it for decent country road driving!
as long as you drive with a little care and control you will be fine running it through the winter, just be VERY careful if driving out on a crisp morning because they can be very playful if you have n't had skid pan training and sometimes even if you have!!!
just make sure you clean the car well after taking it out to stop salt deposits and save the paint work from build up of road deposits and carry on enjoying year round!!!

We garage our TVRs during the winter months. Handbrake off, optimate on. Don't keep starting it every few weeks.
Keep using it if that's what you want to do, but using it through winter will hurt your car more than storage. The winter miles, generally.... will be a pain waiting for oil warm up and not the most enjoyable.
My opinion, nothing to say its right.

May be an idea either to get the wheels off the ground or turn them every so often to avoid getting flat spots.
Also there has been talk of keeping a (kilo?) bag of Silica Gel in it to avoid damp, though Woolworths now do something similar.
Would have thought battery connected and trickle charger as opposed to disconnect battery, but this is just a speculative punt at which would be better.

I have a Halfords Maintenance Charger which clips straight on to the terminals and does the job, can be fiddly and unusually long arms would help but fine if you are laying it up for a while.
There is a proper set of leads which are abundant on Ebay but I am not sure if these are for maintenance as opposed to charging.
In terms of getting the wheels off the ground I was thinking of when my motorbike goes on paddock stands over the winter to stop flatspots. More expert advice on this probably the way forward....

If you haven't driven a Tiv in snow you're missing a fantastic experience.
Last year I was very impressed with my Tam in snow - much better than my old Chim, 350i or 3000M.
Just be very gentle on the throttle and brakes and keep well away from all the other eegits on the road who think it's not their responsibility to drive appropriately for the road conditions.
Mind you - if you get rear ended (ooer) then that's a free 1/2 body respray.
