Can someone enlighten me on this please? Spill the beanz or point me at a relevant thread.

Pre 2001 cars (IIRC) pay 180pa.

So my 2000 Carrera is 180, when if it was a 2002 it would be 400.

Clearly aimed by New Labia at not upsetting pikeys with old Scorpios.

Thought that you would only pay the top band (ie £400) for having a car registered on or after 23/3/2006 ? Hence no 2002 car will be in the £400 band ?

(Edited to make better sense!)

I think it has something to do with how TVR's are classified on the registration document. But i'm sure i didn't pay top whack for the T350.

I'm sure someone will come along soon to explain my rambling!

Guys;

Your TVR is a classed as an 'SVA' (i think small volume automobile)

This means only £180.00 tax FACT regardless of co2 etc
(if you pay more its registered wrong)

This includes all TVR, Nobles, Ultima, Ascari etc

Hope this helps

This has been done before.

Older cars rated on cc. (Think its pre-2001)

Newer cars are banded according to CO2 emissions.

But TVRs are not type approved, and so can't be banded. Hence post-2001 TVRs are rated as PLG, which equates to 185 notes (although dvla site suggests 175 notes).

Keep it quiet though.

Jev.

TVRs are PLG so the year / emissions don't matter.

Mine is the same tax cost as my Diesel Polo, despite masses more emissions! Bargain.

Just taxed my 54reg 350 for £180. It is described as PLG on the V5C. Lots of letters and numbers there! Like a government leaflet!

I assume though, that TVR's will still be rated by CO2 when Ken starts nailing high emission cars on the congestion charge?

I train car dealers and audit new vehicle registrations so can answer this.

TVR are exempt from the graduated VED scheme. Where your daily drives will be registered as a PC or DC (petrol car or diesel car), TVR were always exempt and have remained PLG. Some of the last ones may have slipped through the net, but in the main they will all be PLG and that is the rate we should all pay. PC and DC band cars are graduated based on c02.

My local post office always argues this with me, asks if the TVR is a van and suggests that my 'van' has been registered incorrectly. smile I have since filled them in on something they too, should know about, and now renew my car tax online.

When I got my new R32, the V5 described it as an LT35 (van).....scratchchin other than some explaining to do when I sold the car I bet it would have been tax efficient to leave the error uncorrected! biggrin

It would be intersting (at least to me) to know what the CO2 emissions associated with the entire life cycle of a TVR would be compared to something like, for example, a Prius. I suspect that it is several orders of magnitude lower given that one needs to do 30,000 miles for starters before the CO2 cost of shipping the bloody thing from Japan is offset.

Any scientists out there with nothing to do?
